Gegen die vielfach vertretene Sichtweise, religiöse »Individualisierung« finde ausschließlich jenseits der Kirchen statt, weist der folgende Artikel darauf hin, dass auch innerhalb der kirchlichen Räume zunehmend der soziale Typus des »Wanderers« auftritt. Diese Sozialform individualisierter, selbstermächtigter Spiritualität bildet nach einem kurzen Überblick über aktuelle Perspektiven auf die religiöse Gegenwartslandschaft das zentrale Thema des Textes. »Wanderer« gehen von einer Pluralität gleichwertiger spiritueller Wege aus, die nichtsdestotrotz in der gleichen »höheren Allgemeinheit« münden und deshalb alle experimentierend erforschbar und frei kombinierbar sind. Diese Überzeugung verbinden sie mit einer Ablehnung jeglicher sozialer Kontrolle über ihre Spiritualität durch kirchliche Instanzen -»Wanderer« verstehen sich selbst als die ausschließlichen Herren ihrer Religion. In ihrer Haltung der Kirche gegenüber verbindet sich mit großer Souveränität eine selektive Nutzung ihnen brauchbar erscheinender Angebote mit einer Ablehnung der von ihnen als »eng«, »angstmachend« und »tot« gedeuteten traditionellen Kirchlichkeit. Workshops und Seminare bilden die flüchtigen Vergemeinschaftungsformen dieses Typs spätmoderner Spiritualität, der zwischen der Zielstrebigkeit des modernen »Pilgers« und der Beliebigkeit des postmodernen »Flaneurs« steht. 1. Spätmoderne Religiosität zwischen Kirchlichkeit und »spirituellem Markt« Die Diagnosen über den Zustand der religiösen Gegenwartskultur im deutschen Sprachraum scheinen -jedenfalls auf den ersten Blick -eindeutig.
