This study investigates the relationship between information characteristics and consumers’ behaviours in regards to electronic word of mouth, such as information quality, information credibility, information task-fit, needs of information, attitude towards information and purchase intention of new flavoured bubble tea in an extended Information Acceptance Model. A self-administrated questionnaire was used to collect data from 222 respondents. Data analysis has been conducted using partial least squares-structural equation modelling. The results reveal that information quality, information credibility, information task-fit and attitudes towards information explain the information usefulness. Purchase intention is determined by information adoption, in which information usefulness is the predictor for information adoption. This study extends the literature of purchase intention by incorporating the role of electronic word of mouth information in an extended Information Acceptance Model. Practitioners are encouraged to enrich their marketing effort to boost the online reviews of their products by taking into consideration the quality, credibility and relevancy of the online reviews’ perspectives of electronic word of mouth information. This study contributes to the empirical research of purchase intention by introducing the role of information task-fit in an Information Acceptance Model that combines the characteristics of information and consumer behaviour in the investigation.
PurposeGiven the intense competition in the hotel industry, this study investigates the effect of overwork (OW) and overtime (OT) on turnover intention (TI) as well as the moderating effect of incentives in the context of non-luxury hotels in an emerging market.Design/methodology/approachUsing a purposive sampling technique, a total of 271 front-line employees who are currently working in non-luxury hotels in Sarawak responded to the study. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to perform latent variable and moderation analyses.FindingsThe findings show that both OW and OT have a direct impact on TI. Contrary to the past studies, incentives do not exert any moderating effect on the relationship between OW, OT and TI among the employees working at non-luxury hotels.Originality/valueThis is one of the first studies to explore the effect of incentives between OW and working OT on TI in the context of the non-luxury hotels in an emerging market and show why incentives might not work. It further advances the understanding of the JD-R theory, demonstrating the necessity for organizations to provide matching resources to address job strains.
The discourse on responsible tourism, although not new, has been given a new lease on life in the wake of COVID-19. Before 2020, global tourism mobilities were unparalleled with seemingly little standing in the way of the juggernaut that tourism had become. Typically, tourism is seen through an economic lens – for the jobs it provides and the impetus it gives to the coffers of governments and the wallets of tourism dependent communities. This has not changed since the tourism growth model was spawned in the 1960s and has only intensified through to the era of overtourism. In invoking the term, New Era of Responsibility, it not too subtly suggests that for global tourism, the reframing that needs to take place is urgent and has been expedited by the pandemic of 2020. What is called for has been broached before and if tourism is to be the panacea of the catalogue of things ascribed to it, business as usual is surely not feasible. The call for an epoch where responsibility is assumed reverberates in talking circles that reference the Anthropocene as a time when the urgency to act with greater responsibility is now, more than ever, vital, given that the demands put upon the planet continue to intensify while the requisite attention needed to allow recovery and replenishment, and to stave off system failure, continually deteriorates. Tourism has become entrenched as a lifestyle phenomenon for many, and a livelihood source for as many more. The call for responsible tourism appeals to finding the balance between competing priorities and most importantly, to acknowledge planetary limitations.
The capability of monetary aggregates to generate stable link with fundamental economic indicators verifies the effectiveness of monetary targeting. However, traditional monetary aggregates have become flawed when financial reforms take place. As official monetary aggregates fail to maintain stable link with crucial economic indicators in Malaysia, monetary targeting has been substituted by interest rate targeting. Therefore, Divisia monetary aggregates, which are considered more superior than the simple sum counterparts are used in the investigation for the case of Malaysia. The findings imply that Divisia M2 money demand is stable and is capable to generate appropriate coefficients with correct signs for the variables included. Thus, Divisia money has shed new light on the usefulness of monetary targeting in formulating monetary policy in Malaysia.
Stability of the exchange rate is critical for policy formulation in Indonesia and thus, has boosted the study of exchange rate behaviour. In this study, the monetary model of exchange rate has been utilised to determine the exchange rate for Indonesia. The model was improved by means of including the Divisia monetary aggregate as the money measure instead of conventional money supply. The ARDL approach, which was valid in spite of the variables' stationary properties, was used for the estimation. The findings indicated that monetary fundamentals are significant in explaining the exchange rate movements in Indonesia when Divisia money was incorporated into the monetary model of the exchange rate. As a result, monetary fundamentals can serve as the determinants of exchange rate in addition to non-monetary fundamentals in the case of Indonesia. High magnitude of the money supply differential and the real income differential coefficients also implied that monetary targeting can serve as a useful instrument for monetary policy in addition to inflation targeting. The research is based on the data ranging from 1984Q1 to 2017Q1.
