Se realizó un diagnóstico participativo sobre el aprovechamiento y manejo de los recursos naturales en la Comunidad de Guadalupe Cuautepec, Suchitepec, Oaxaca; con el objetivo de definir estrategias para el aprovechamiento y manejo sostenido de sus recursos naturales, desde la conciencia situacional, percepción y el análisis participativo de la comunidad. Los recursos naturales son importantes como medios de vida. Sin embargo, la presión que se ejerce sobre los recursos naturales, tiene consecuencias ambientales. Por lo tanto, es fundamental su conservación por medio de un manejo que considere aspectos socioambientales. El uso de métodos participativos en el manejo de los recursos naturales es una herramienta, de conocimiento y acción, efectiva para intervenir en la dinámica de los procesos comunitarios y mantener el patrimonio natural. El diagnóstico participativo permitió identificar desde la percepción y situacionalidad comunitaria los problemas en el aprovechamiento y manejo de sus recursos naturales. Además aportó elementos importantes para la planificación y manejo integral del territorio comunitario en espacio y tiempo. El plan de acción comunitario estableció el tipo de acciones que la comunidad realizará para el manejo sostenido de sus recursos naturales. La comunidad reconoce los problemas que existen en el aprovechamiento de sus recursos naturales, así mismo, identifican las alternativas de solución para un manejo más adecuado y conservación de los mismos, sin embargo, están concientes que hace falta el fortalecimiento de sus capacidades. La comunidad se vuelve así en un territorio de dialogo, participación y aprendizaje para todos los actores sociales. Lo que se busca, con este tipo de investigación participativa, es fortalecer los modos de vida de las comunidades de la Mixteca Oaxaqueña, la comunalidad.
