Este trabalho propõe um modelo de evolução em música integrado por múltiplos processos, os quais incluem transformações, admissibilidades, rupturas, continuidades e reintegrações. Esses processos são exemplificados de maneira não linear, iniciando em Josquin, retrocedendo a Dufay, avançando, em seguida, a Monteverdi e a dois instantes do fim do século passado, para retornar a Beethoven e apresentar uma derradeira discussão sobre processo composicional. Este estudo conclui que um modelo de evolução em música implica um processo não cumulativo que se move em espiral por vias de processos que transformam, rompem, avançam e retrocedem.
