The main object of this research is to classify the groundwater vulnerability to contamination in a limited (Foster & Hirata, 1988) (Foster & Hirata, 1988), que consiste na caracterização, por meio de índices, do grau de confinamento da água subterrânea, da ocorrência dos estratos de cobertura e do nível do lençol freático. O resultado final é obtido pela multiplicação dos índices e corresponde a um mapa geral com indicação dos níveis de vulnerabilidade da área. Os resultados, em termos percentuais, revelam que a área apresenta vulnerabilidade à contaminação predominantemente variando de média (41%) à alta (59%), evidenciando a necessidade de desenvolvimento e implantação do zoneamento de proteção do manancial.
A estimativas de vazão máxima de escoamento superficial são necessárias para o projeto de obras hidráulicas e modelagem hidrológica das águas subterrâneas em bacias urbanas e rurais. A dificuldade em aplicar os procedimentos disponíveis para calcular a variação do escoamento superficial com o tempo e de seu valor máximo está na escolha do método. Dessa forma, a investigação de um método que produza estimativas confiáveis da vazão máxima e do hidrograma de escoamento superficial é de grande interesse, principalmente considerando uma área de estudo localizada em uma região cujo abastecimento é quase exclusivamente subterrâneo, estudos desse tipo se apresentam com significativa relevância para os dados de recarga do aquífero. O trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a sensibilidade dos hidrogramas de cheias máximas obtidos pelo método do SCS (Soil Conservation Service) a variação do CN (Número da Curva) e ao tempo de concentração em uma microbacia urbana localizada no município de Juazeiro do Norte/CE. Foram simulados 186 hidrogramas de vazões máximas a partir de seis cenários de uso e ocupação do solo e da variação do tempo de concentração com aplicação de sete equações para obtenção do tempo de concentração. Os resultados indicaram grande dependência na forma dos hidrogramas de vazões máximas obtidas pelo método do SCS ao valor do tempo de concentração e ao CN. Em adicional, o estudo revelou que a cheia máxima na bacia analisada é mais sensível as alterações do CN nas condições de pequenos tempos de concentrações.
Este ensaio abordou a questão das mudanças climáticas no semiárido nordestino, a partir da reflexão de eventos históricos fundamentais para a discussão que envolve o meio ambiente, a saúde e as alterações do clima. Diferentes nações estão tomando medidas de enfrentamento a essas mudanças, no Brasil ações em nível federal também se somam as ações estaduais e ainda timidamente as municipais para convivência com este novo momento. As regiões brasileiras são peculiares, cada ecossistema responde de maneira singular as modificações de temperatura e já são afetadas pelas modificações do clima, comprometendo ecossistemas e desencadeando novos problemas nas cidades. Tratou-se em especial das repercussões sobre o semiárido por ser uma região bastante vulnerável, devido a extensas áreas de desertificação aliado a seca constante e as questões socioambientais. O bioma caatinga possui ampla diversidade biológica que tem muito a contribuir para o desenvolvimento sustentável do país. São apontadas alternativas sustentáveis para convivência com as atuais mudanças do clima no semiárido uma vez que a preservação da diversidade biológica é reconhecidamente de extrema importância para a sobrevivência humana. Na valorização dos saberes locais em articulação com as políticas públicas se tem uma maneira de atenuar as mudanças regionais de clima e possibilitar o enfrentamento das mudanças climáticas globais.
