Catherine Kintzler : The Right to Education.
Condorcet's writings on education (Cinq mémoires sur l'instruction publique and Rapport et projet de décret sur l'organisation générale de l'Instruction publique) present the most elaborate formulation of the right to education during the Revolution. The Encyclopédie provided both tools for Condorcet — in the idea of Enlightenment, of avoidance of error, in its model of knowledge and its organisation, and in its idea of modern education — , and also an obstacle : the incapacity of its time to see education as a right and its Spartan ideal of moulding individuals for society.
