O Clube Campineiro de Regatas e Natação foi criado em 1918, às margens do rio Atibaia, na região de Sousas, área rural de Campinas. Em 1935, ampliou suas dependências com a criação de uma sede urbana no centro da cidade. No âmbito deste breve recorte de tempo (1918 a 1935), o artigo examina como a criação do clube transformou a relação de parte da população local com a natureza e seus elementos, em que novas práticas e condutas ligadas à cultura física passaram a ter lugar. As fontes constituídas comportam jornais, revista, fotografias, além de recortes avulsos de jornais. Conclui-se que as novas práticas realizadas pelo clube transformaram a paisagem e os comportamentos que passaram a exortar uma vida ao ar livre, bem como transformaram também a forma como o rio era utilizado por parte dos habitantes da cidade.
