Este artigo analisa as percepções de ativistas brasileiros sobre a cobertura climática e sua contribuição para mobilização social. Considerando o alcance e a credibilidade associados ao jornalismo, assim como seu papel de mediação entre ciência, política e sociedade, realizaram-se grupos focais virtuais (Gatti, 2005) com ativistas, de até 35 anos, das cinco regiões do País, para discussão sobre as articulações entre engajamento e jornalismo climático. As respostas foram categorizadas a partir de suas recorrências e adesão à literatura da área, a partir da Análise de Conteúdo (Bardin, 1979). Os resultados revelam que os ativistas observam distanciamento da pauta com o cotidiano das pessoas, dificuldade de compreensão de termos científicos, ausência da apresentação de soluções, mas também dos responsáveis pela crise climática; e reivindicam mais espaço para aqueles que já vivenciam os efeitos e/ou atuam localmente em alternativas para seu enfrentamento. Além disso, afirmam que isso já é feito em alguns veículos especializados e alternativos, mas que é preciso que a imprensa hegemônica participe desse processo.
