The experiment was conducted in 2014, in a completely randomized factorial design (5x6), with three replications. The factors were soil classes (Typic Ustipsamments, Typic Haplustults, Typic Haplustepts, Typic Ustifluvents, and Typic Haplusterts) and levels of irrigation water salinity (0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, and 5.0 dS m-1). Increasing salinity of irrigation water caused increase in leaf contents of macronutrients in all soils. Adequate leaf contents of N, K, and Mg were observed in plants grown in all soils except K in Typic Haplusterts and Mg in Typic Ustipsamments. Appropriate P levels were observed only in Typic Haplustepts, and Ca only in Typic Haplustults and Typic Ustifluvents. Increased salinity of irrigation water caused increased leaf contents of micronutrients in all soils except copper in Typic Ustifluvents, iron in Typic Haplusterts and Typic Haplustults, and manganese in Typic Ustipsamments and Typic Haplustults.

La erosión es la principal forma de degradación en el mundo, en consecuencia de la pérdida de suelo, agua y nutrientes, provocando daños directos e indirectos. El objetivo de este trabajo es cuantificar las pérdidas de N, P y K por erosión hídrica en condiciones de lluvia simulada mediante la aplicación de seis pruebas de erosión en cultivo continuo de especies de ciclo estacional, incluyendo cultivos aislados y cultivos intercalados. El estudio se llevó a cabo en el campo en la Estación Experimental de Agronomía en Eldorado do Sul (RS), Brasil, en un Argisol Rojo Distrófico típico. Para el análisis de la pérdida de nutrientes, se aplicaron seis ensayos de erosión con lluvia simulada a los tratamientos entre finales de octubre y mediados de diciembre, utilizando el simulador de lluvia con brazos giratorios de Swanson. Las pérdidas de N y P se vieron influenciadas por las condiciones de la superficie, con la eliminación parcial de los residuos del cultivo y la no movilización del suelo. La excepción fue K, debido a su alta solubilidad en el suelo con baja actividad coloidal, que se perdió fácilmente en la escorrentía superficial del agua del suelo, independientemente de la cobertura total de la superficie del suelo por los residuos de los cultivos.

Different soil managements evidence soil properties, contributing positively or negatively to its quality. A study was conducted in the city of Martins, Rio Grande do Norte (RN) state, in four cultivated areas: corn intercropped with beans (CICB), cassava monocrop (CAMO), bean monocrop (BEMO) and native forest (NF, considered as the original soil condition). This study aimed to evaluate changes in the chemical properties of an Oxisol in function of different agricultural uses (N, P, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na1+, Al3+, pH, EC, H+Al, BS, V, CEC, t, m, OM and ESP) and the distinction of environments using multivariate analysis. The sampling was performed up to 30 cm deep. Soil pH values were kept close to 5.5, except for the area with corn intercropped with beans, whose values were higher than 7.0. Corn intercropped with beans had the highest concentrations of K+, Na+ and Ca2+ on the soil, with a direct impact on base sum. Different uses modified soil chemical properties. Corn intercropped with beans differs from the other treatments due to the addition of solid waste to the soil. Principal component analyses showed pH and exchangeable bases are the most sensitive indicators of environment separation.

In Brazil, the state of Rio Grande do Norte has an important coastal zone and coastal Tableland areas along the Barreiras Formation, but there are few studies to locate and characterize soils with cohesive character. Therefore, this work was carried out to characterize pedons in the western and eastern mesoregions of the state, located in the Barreiras Formation and with different climatic conditions. The profile description and sample collection were carried out in March and April 2016. The characteristics of the profile identified were the sequence of horizons and their depth, soil color, texture, structure, consistency, and transition between horizons. The physical analyzes were of soil density and texture. The chemical analyzes consisted of: pH in water and in KCl, contents of available P, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, potential acidity, and total organic carbon. Indices obtained were: base sum, effective cation exchange capacity, cation exchange capacity at pH 7.0, base saturation, exchangeable aluminum saturation, and exchangeable sodium percentage. The profiles were classified up to the fourth categorical level. The mineralogical assembly was identified in the clay fraction of the diagnostic horizons. The identification of the minerals was performed by X-ray diffraction. The pedons of the two regions presented distinct characteristics and pedogenesis, occurring laterization in the pedons of the western mesoregion and podzolization in the pedons of the eastern mesoregion, both without presence of cohesive character as a diagnostic attribute.

Mineralogical studies are incipient and necessary in the Apodi Plateau, Brazil. This study aimed to evaluate the interrelationship between the mineralogy of the clay fraction and its structural and chemical attributes and to differentiate two important pedo-environments in the semi-arid region of northeastern Brazil (Ferralsol and Cambisols of the Apodi Plateau-RN) using the multivariate technique. We evaluated the interrelationships between mineralogy and the structural and chemical attributes of the soil and differentiated between agroenvironments. We collected soil samples from six profiles in diagnostic horizons of the Ferralsols and Cambisols. In the mineralogical analysis of the clay fraction, X-Ray Diffraction was used to identify mineral peaks of clay and iron oxides. The physical and chemical properties of the soils were determined. The multivariate statistical technique was applied to process the data. The clay minerals identified were hematite, goethite, kaolinite, and illite. The principal component analysis allowed for the separation of environments according to soil density, Fed and Mg2+ for developed soils, and potassium, weighted average diameter, microporosity, total organic carbon, sodium, the sum of bases, calcium, total porosity, aeration, potential acidity, and Feo discriminated developing soils. This study revealed that the clay fraction influenced the structural attributes of the soil according to the degree of soil development. Two profiles presented atypical situations: High contents of crystallized iron in Cambisols and illite peaks in Ferralsolos. These mineralogical results are not commonly found in the literature, highlighting the potential for further studies. The answers concerning the mineralogy of semiarid soils in Brazil and the world show similarity.
