In der kinderärztlichen Praxis werden häufig Patienten mit anhaltenden oder wiederholt auftretenden kör-perlichen Beschwerden ohne organischen Befund vorgestellt. Trotz dessen Fehlens liegen häufig ein hoher subjektiver Leidensdruck des Patienten und starke Gesundheitsängste der Eltern vor. Die Erwartungen an den Pädiater sind hoch. Er steht vor dem Dilemma, dass auf der einen Seite keine weitere somatische Diagnostik indiziert ist, auf der anderen Seite aber die Gefahr besteht, dass der Patient bzw. dessen Eltern die Behandlung abbrechen und einen anderen Arzt aufsuchen. Die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen einer kinderärztlichen Basisversorgung in diesen Fällen werden erörtert.
