Este artículo presenta los resultados de una investigación que buscó determinar el impacto del componente de Investigación en el Aula de la Licenciatura en Lenguas Extranjeras de la Universidad del Valle en los estudiantes de las cohortes 2000 y 2001. Desde un enfoque mixto se describen las vivencias de los estudiantes en los cursos y seminarios de investigación, así como el impacto de esta experiencia en la escritura de la monografía, la práctica docente y entre otros aspectos de la vida académica y personal. Se utilizaron tres encuestas en diferentes momentos del desarrollo del componente. Los estudiantes reconocieron la contribución positiva del componente a su vida académica, a sus proyectos de investigación y a su desempeño en otras asignaturas del currículo; esta formación influyó además en el desarrollo de habilidades de observación y el pensamiento analítico.
Este artículo presenta un diagnóstico de las creencias y percepciones de los profesores de un programa de licenciatura en lenguas extranjeras, al respecto del concepto de competencia comunicativa intercultural (CCI). Este estudio de caso exploratorio de tipo mixto busca identificar las creencias y percepciones del equipo docente sobre la CCI con el fin de establecer un horizonte claro que permita desarrollar propuestas de intervención que impliquen ajustes importantes en los diseños de los programas de curso, a corto y mediano plazo. Los resultados de esta investigación permiten constatar que los docentes asumen el carácter inseparable de la lengua y de la cultura, y que están de acuerdo en la importancia de desarrollar la CCI en sus clases de lenguas extranjeras. Sin embargo, dichas percepciones no se ven reflejadas en sus prácticas pedagógicas. Los profesores reconocen la necesidad de hacer modificaciones en el proyecto educativo del programa y adquirir bases teóricas y metodológicas con el fin de que la CCI se convierta en un eje transversal de formación del futuro licenciado en lenguas extranjeras.
