The paucity of information regarding the status of the communication companies in Ecuador, prompting the Department of Communication Sciences at the Technical University of Loja (UTPL) to develop a mapping of media, communication, production companies, advertising agencies and country's public relations. The need for a site consultation and reference on issues of communication, is still latent in Ecuador. While there are some contributions, both from private agencies as to build physical or virtual repositories, they have simply submit basic contact information and often outdated. With a sample of over 1000 media access know its form and substance, itself, distributed morphology and corporate legal organization, location, content, scope, and services provided. It is an informative approach to reality in the country and is part of the macro research called "Map of Ecuador communication".
The media ecosystem is a research methodology proposed by Neil Postman and Marshall McLuhan in 1971, with its consolidation based on solid concepts presented in 1979. However, it presents crosscutting concepts to other media studies, many of them developed by theorists who will update, or built concepts that sustain a new media ecology. The article presents an update of these views from a research that has as a methodology the depth bibliographic method. We hope to offer, with the results presented here, the possibility of a conceptualization of a new media ecology. As results of the investigation, we present indicatives for the stock of new metaphors of the contemporary media ecology.
The purpose is to find out the public's perception of the information transmitted by COVID-19 in Ecuador's conventional social communication media between March and June 2020, since it is the first country in the region to be affected. The questions: Was there a lack of information?, What information would citizens like to receive? and What strategies should the media implement?" are answered through a qualitative methodological approach of a descriptive and relational type. The research techniques are survey, content analysis, interviews with experts and description of digital publications. The conclusion is that there was little transparency and little research. According to those surveyed, the media should not subordinate deontology to immediacy. The urgency of contrast, consistency, multiple sources and educational approaches is shown. Stories require a humane approach and build transmedia stories. What happened in Ecuador is a reference for other realities, for example in neighboring countries of the Andean área.
