ABSTRACT -The objective was to study the effects of different levels of soil salinity on the phenological variables and production of the eggplant when grown in pots in a protected environment. The study was carried out at the experimental site of the Department of Biosystems Engineering ESALQ/USP in Piracicaba, São Paulo. The treatments consisted of a combination of two factors: six initial levels of soil salinity (S1 = 1.3, S2 = 2.4, S3 = 3.6, S4 = 4.5, S5 = 5.6 and S6 = 6.4 dS m -1) and two fertigation management: with the electrical conductivity of the soil solution being controlled (M1) and traditional (M2), following the absorption curve of nutrients from the culture. The statistical design adopted was a randomized complete-block design with four replications, arranged in a 6 x 2 factorial. The results showed that the levels of soil salinity directly affected the variables of dry-matter production, fruit production and leaf-area index of the plants. It was found that the average reduction in yield of the eggplant crop in a greenhouse, was approximately 8.65% for an increase of 1 dS m -1 in the salinity of the soil above the threshold salinity of 1.71 dS m -1 .
The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse in the experimental area of the Irrigation and Drainage Section of the University of São Paulo (ESALQ/USP), Piracicaba, State of São Paulo, Brazil. The experimental design consisted of randomized blocks.Nine saline nutrient solutions obtained with the addition of NaCl with EC: 1.8, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 dS m -1 were evaluated. The number of leaves, aerial fresh and dry biomass, root dry biomass, water content in aerial parts and ratio of aerial parts and root dry biomass were analysed. The results obtained show that the increase in levels of salinity of nutrient solution caused a reduction in all parameters except the number of leaves which was not affected significantly and the ratio root/shoot was influenced incrementally. The threshold salinity was found to be 2.57 dS m -1 , with 5.57% of reduction in production for each unit increase in salinity. The salad rocket was classified as moderately sensitive to salinity.
Swine wastewater can be used as a biofertilizer and promote significant improvements in soil physical-chemical attributes and yield. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of swine wastewater application on soil and maize yield. The experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Sciences Center of the Federal University of Piauí, in Teresina, Piauí, Brazil, from August to November 2015. The experimental design used completely randomized blocks in split-plot scheme, with five doses of swine wastewater (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 m3 ha-1) in the plots and two soil depths (0.20 and 0.40 m) in the subplots, with four replications. Exchangeable contents of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium, electrical conductivity, pH, sum of bases, base saturation, potential acidity and cation exchange capacity, and crop yield were evaluated. Results showed calcium, magnesium, sum of bases and cation exchange capacity increased with elevated levels of swine wastewater. Potassium and sodium contents however decreased with doses of 51.58 and 52.28 m3 ha-1, respectively. Except for potassium and potential acidity, variables showed higher values at the 0-0.20 m depth.
