A spectrum of findings in gastric volvulus exists. Mesenteroaxial volvulus has greater morbidity and mortality. Radiographic findings of spherical gastric dilatation, paucity of distal gas and diaphragmatic elevation are suggestive of acute volvulus, particularly in patients with predisposing factors.

Plain film findings suggested the diagnosis in most; CT and MR were useful adjuncts. High index of suspicion and awareness of the mechanism of injury can lead to prompt diagnosis, early repair, and decreased morbidity and mortality.

This is the longest reported study using non-anesthesiologist-administered nitrous oxide as a single-agent for minor surgical procedures. The technique provides safe sedation and excellent amnesia, allowing pain and anxiety-reduced surgery with no fasting or postoperative monitoring.
