This paper investigates whether there is a fraction of consumers that do not behave as fully forward-looking optimal consumers in the Brazilian economy. The generalized method of moments technique was applied to nonlinear Euler equations of the consumption-based capital assets model contemplating utility functions with time separability and non-separability. The results show that when the household utility function was modeled as constant relative risk aversion, external habits and Kreps-Porteus, estimates of the fraction of rule-of-thumb households was, respectively, 89%, 78% and 22%. According to this, a portion of disposable income goes to households who consume their current incomes in violation of the permanent income hypothesis. This article is a revised version of Marcos Gesteira's Master Thesis, done under the supervision of Carlos Enrique CarrascoGutierrez. The main goal of this manuscript is to introduce a discrete dynamical system defined by symmetric matrices and a real parameter. By construction, we rediscovery the Power Iteration Method from the Projected Gradient Method. Convergence of the discrete dynamical system solution is established. Finally, we consider two applications, the first one consists in find a solution of non linear equation problem and the other one consists in verifies the optimality conditions when we solve quadratic optimization problems over linear equality constraints.
This article examines the long‐ and short‐run effects of rural credit on the gross value added of agricultural output in Brazil. We apply the dynamic vector error correction model (VECM) to the estimation and testing. The main finding is that there is a positive long‐run relationship between agricultural sector production and loans from financial institutions to the agricultural sector. The long‐run elasticity estimated was 0.44, implying that an increase of 1% in rural credit leads to a 0.44% increase in the agricultural sector's GDP. This result supports the policy of rural credit as a crucial institutional instrument to strengthen the agricultural sector and as an important factor to boost the country's economic growth.
