Palavras-chave: consumo de água, evapotranspiração, biomassa, óleo essencial Determination of crop coefficient (Kc) and water use efficiency for irrigated rosemary peppermint ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to determine the crop coefficient (Kc), water use efficiency (WUE) of the Lippia sidoides Cham. contemplating the production of biomass and essential oil and growth parameters. ThERMAL REqUIREMENTS AND DEVELOpMENT OF 'NIAGARA ROSADA' GRApES GROwN IN ThE NORTh OF MINAS GERAISABSTRACT -The 'Niagara Rosada' grape has been highlighted as an alternative to the diversification of fruits growing in irrigated areas of the semi-arid Brazilian regions. The objective of this research was to characterize and compare the length of time in days and the thermal requirements in degree-days, taking in account twelve sub-periods of their phenological cycle, from pruning to harvesting. The study was carried out in the vineyard Santa Catarina, in the county of Janaúba, north of Minas Gerais -Brazil. Grapevines, grafted on the rootstock IAC 572 'Jales' were irrigated by microaspersion. The amount of days and the thermal requirement were determined in the same plants on two consecutive pruning dates. The total length of the cycle, varied from 116 days for the grape pruned in January, and 123 days for those pruned in July. The base temperature used for the study was 10° C. The total amount of degree days for the grape pruned in January was 1838; while for the ones pruned in July were 1766. Index terms: vineyard, semi-arid, biometeorological index.
CARBOHYDRATE CONTENT IN PERSIMMON TREE WOODY ORGANS IN TROPICAL CLIMATEABSTRACT-In deciduous fruit trees, the carbohydrate's metabolism are recognized as the main mechanism that ensures their survival during the rest period. Besides it, the very same metabolism is related to the productive potential in subsequent harvest seasons. Knowing how the plants use those carbohydrates during their development and growth is an important step in the right direction to understand the relation source-drain more effectively along with building up the fundamentals of some handling practices, for instance, the pruning and fruit thinning. The objective of the present study was to characterize how the total soluble sugars content and the starch vary in woody organs of the persimmon tree (Diospyros kaki L) in elapsing of its phenological development. This study was carried out in the experimental area of the Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz" (ESALQ) in Piracicaba -SP, during the cycle 2002/2003. The phenology of persimmon tree was described by the occurrence period and prolongation of shoot growth, flowering, fruit growth, leaf expansion and natural abortion of fruits. The carbohydrates content in stems and roots were analyzed based on different phenological stages. The results showed a significant variation in the starch and total soluble sugars content in the sampled organs. The ...
This study aimed to identify some of the main weed species in the pineapple crop grown in northern Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The phytosociological survey was carried out in two seasons, spring-summer and fall-winter, in a pineapple cultivation area of Unimontes, using the square inventory method (0.25 x 0.25 m). The samples were identified and quantified by families, genera and species, evaluating: frequency, relative frequency, density, relative density, abundance, relative abundance, importance value index, relative importance value index and similarity index. In the spring-summer period, ten species were identified, distributed in nine genera and eight families, highlighting the Euphorbiaceae and Poaceae families, with two species each. The species with the highest importance value indexes were Cyperus iria (77.29), Cynodon dactylon (51.99) and Euphorbia heterophylla (45.46). In the fall-winter period, six families, seven genera and nine species were identified, since three of the Euphorbiaceae family, with more species. The species that showed greater importance value indexes in the fall-winter period were Amaranthus hybridus (48.64), Cyperus hiris (48.11) and Euphorbia hirta (45.06). The similarity index was 84.21%, with 11 species in common, demonstrating a high homogeneity between the two evaluated periods.
Napier grass is a tropical perennial C4 grass with superior biomass yield and quality. It is an important forage crop and a promising feedstock for lignocellulosic biofuel production. However, precise phenotyping and genotyping data to support the molecular breeding of Napier grass are scarce. A Napier grass F1 mapping population (segregating pseudo‐F2 population) was generated by hybridizing genetically distant parents (N190 × N122) with contrasting flowering‐time‐ and biomass‐related traits. True F1 hybrids were confirmed with a simple sequence repeat marker, vegetatively propagated, and phenotyped in replicate field plots for 2 years (2 harvests per year) in Citra, FL, USA (29.40N). Near‐normal distributions were observed for flowering date, plant height, number of tillers, stem diameter, and leaf width, confirming the quantitative nature of these traits. The annual dry biomass yield of F1 hybrids varied between 21.0 and 41.1 t ha−1. The highest‐yielding F1 hybrids showed remarkable hybrid vigor exceeding the annual biomass production of the highest‐yielding parental accession (26.9 t ha−1) by 52% and the biomass yield of the control “Merkeron” cultivar (29.2 t ha−1) by 41% over 2 years. F1 hybrids with delayed flowering time along with significantly increased biomass yield were also identified. Late‐flowering accessions allowed maximum biomass harvest before formation and dispersal of seeds, reducing invasion risk. The developed mapping population will be an excellent resource for identifying quantitative trait loci and candidate genes for flowering‐ and biomass‐related traits in Napier grass that will accelerate the improvement of this non‐domesticated bioenergy crop.
