Phytosociological Survey in Pineapple Cultivated in Northern Minas Gerais

Abstract: This study aimed to identify some of the main weed species in the pineapple crop grown in northern Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The phytosociological survey was carried out in two seasons, spring-summer and fall-winter, in a pineapple cultivation area of Unimontes, using the square inventory method (0.25 x 0.25 m). The samples were identified and quantified by families, genera and species, evaluating: frequency, relative frequency, density, relative density, abundance, relative abundance, importance value index… Show more

“…1). Sarmento et al (2017) cultivated pineapple under similar climatic conditions in the spring-summer period of Brazil and identified ten weed species distributed in nine genera and eight families, with the families Euphorbiaceae and Poaceae standing out, with two individuals each. In the autumn-winter period, nine species, seven genera and six families were identified, with Euphorbiaceae and Poaceae standing out again with three and two individuals, respectively.…”

“…A phytosociological study for weed management is justified as infestation conditions are varied and the management possibilities are diverse (Sarmento et al, 2017;Santos et al, 2019) since the establishment and dynamics of a weed community depend on edaphoclimatic conditions, crop practices, seed bank, etc. (Adegas et al, 2010;Swanton et al, 2015;Korres et al, 2019).…”

“…The poaceae family still stands out in crops of several other crops, both annual and perennial, being observed in bean varieties (Silva et al, 2017), cassava (Cardoso et al, 2013;Soares et al, 2015), sugar cane (Soares et al, 2011) papaya (Costa et al, 2019), pineapple (Sarmento et al, 2017), orange (Santos et al, 2015) and mango (Sena et al, 2019). This wide distribution of weeds from the poacea family is directly related to the large amount of seeds produced, which provides an increase in the dissemination power of these species (Maciel et al, 2010).…”
