The occurrence of EGD exerted a negative impact on OHRQoL independently of confounding variables in this specific population. The present findings justify the planning of treatment for individuals with EGD that impacts quality of life.
The objective of this study was to evaluate and correlate light transmittance (T), initial degree of conversion (IDC), and degree of conversion after 24 hr (DC24) for 22 composite resins (CR) for enamel and dentin use. The transmittance (n = 10) was measured with a spectrometer at a wavelength of 468.14 nm. The degree of conversion (DC; n = 5) was measured with Fourier Transform Near‐Infrared Spectroscopy before polymerization, immediately after photoactivation, and 24 hr after photoactivation. Both sets of values are provided as percentages. ANOVA and Games‐Howell (α = 5%) tests showed that Filtek Supreme Ultra gave the highest T values of all enamel CRs, while Esthet‐X HD presented the lowest. Meanwhile, Venus diamond gave the highest values of all dentin CRs, while Esthet‐X HD gave the lowest. For IDC and DC24, ANOVA showed differences between individual CRs and the two CR types (p < .0001). Despite the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that there was no correlation between T and either IDC or DC24 (p > .05); however, IDC and DC24 were strongly correlated (p < .05) by Pearson's correlation. That being said, as a higher DC reflects better mechanical properties, certain conclusions can be drawn about overall performance. The best IDC values were observed for the Opallis enamel resin and the Opallis and Premise dentin resins. Meanwhile, the best DC24 values were observed for the Opallis, Charisma, and Premise enamel resins and the Opallis and Premise dentin resins. Degree of conversion and light transmittance showed differences between composite resin types (enamel and dentin) and brands. It is important to know at the moment of composite choice taking into account mechanical and optical properties.
Noncarious cervical lesions (NCCLs) are characterized by the loss of tooth structure in the cervical region of the tooth without bacterial involvement, also known as tooth wear, which may be initiated by erosion, abrasion, abfraction or may have a multifactorial origin. [1][2][3] After identify and treat the etiological factor, sometimes restorations are necessary to protect the remaining dental structure, decrease mineral loss and hypersensitivity and finally, reduce plaque accumulation. [1,4] Adhesive restorations in cervical, noncarious, and nonretentive cavities are used as a clinical model for the evaluation of adhesive systems, as recommended by the American Dental Association. [5] This is because cervical lesions do not have macro mechanical retentions and because they are widely available in patients with better hygiene habits than the average. [6] These lesions require at least 50% of adhesion in dentin and are usually found on anterior teeth and premolars with good access for restoration. An inefficient adhesion usually results in loss of restoration, considered the better clinical parameter used by clinical studies. INTRODUÇÃO: Pacientes com mordida aberta e sobre-mordida aumentada geralmente têm os planos oclusais superior e inferior girados no sentido horário ou anti-horário. Nesses casos, o plano oclusal superior pode ser modificado, por meio da intrusão posterior ou anterior, para se obter um bom resultado funcional e estético. MÉTODOS: A rotação efetiva do plano oclusal superior sempre foi um dos principais desafios dos tratamentos ortodônticos, sendo difícil obter-se uma mudança considerável sem efeitos colaterais ou sem uma colaboração extrema dos pacientes. A ancoragem esquelética trouxe novas possibilidades para esses casos, aumentando a quantidade de movimentação ortodôntica, reduzindo ou eliminando efeitos colaterais e, às vezes, até eliminando a necessidade de cirurgia ortognática. RESULTADOS: O presente artigo relata dois casos de pacientes com mordida aberta e sobremordida aumentada, tratados com miniplacas na região posterior da maxila, para rotação do plano oclusal superior. Os resultados demonstraram uma significativa rotação do plano oclusal superior em ambos os casos, com bons resultados estéticos e funcionais ao fim do tratamento.
: O presente estudo avaliou o comprimento e a proporção dentária em dentes anterossuperiores de pacientes com e sem sorriso gengival. Material e métodos: Selecionaram-se 38 indivíduos para cada um dos grupos: caso (sorriso gengival) e controle. Modelos de gesso foram obtidos mediante moldagem das arcadas, para então serem realizadas as mensurações. Também se submeteram os pacientes a um breve questionário. Resultados: Os dados foram tabulados e analisados por meio de análise de variância sob um nível de significância de 5%. Em ambos os grupos, a maioria foram mulheres (68,4%), brancos (98,7%), com idade variando de 18 a 28 anos. A maior altura encontrada foi para o dente 21 do grupo controle (9,88 mm), e a maior proporção para o dente 11 do grupo caso (87,43%). Analisando a classe dentária, somente a proporção dos incisivos centrais dos casos foram estatisticamente diferentes (p = 0,041), com uma proporção maior. Conclusão: Indivíduos com sorriso gengival possuem proporção dentária maior do que aqueles que não apresentam, entretanto nem todos os dentes podem ter tal diferença.
