O presente artigo objetiva descrever preliminarmente o sistema de classificadores em 15 línguas que compõem a família linguística Arawák (Arawák): Achaguá, Ashéninka Perené, Baniwa de Içana, Baure, Garifuna, Mehináku, Nanti, Palikur, Paresi, Resígaro, Tariana, Wapixana, Warekena, Waujá e Yawalapiti. Os classificadores são geralmente definidos como morfemas que ocorrem em estruturas da superfície que denotam algumas características semânticas associadas aos seus referentes. Os tipos de classificadores descritos nesse estudo são os numerais, nominais, genitivos, verbais, locativos e com adjetivos. Como resultado, verificamos que os classificadores de número é o tipo mais comum entre essas línguas, enquanto o locativo e os adjetivos são os mais raros. Desse modo, estabelecemos um estudo tipológico preliminar para verificar os possíveis padrões do sistema de classificadores das 15 línguas que compõem a família Arawák.
Tupí-Guaraní, tronco Tupí. Para averiguação do processo de nasalidade em línguas Tupí-Guaraní utiliza-se como pressuposto teórico principal a abordagem tipológica de Walker (1998), para verificar e compreender, a partir de uma hierarquia tipológica de harmonia nasal, segmentos que podem ser gatilhos ou alvos do espalhamento nasal. O estudo também utiliza as considerações de Ohala (1993) e Cohn (1990, 1993) para examinar o processo de nasalização como efeito fonético ou fonológico. A abordagem tipológica permitiu observar o comportamento de consoantes e vogais em relação à nasalidade, possibilitando sua classificação em termos de papéis que desempenham, sejam como gatilhos, alvos, bloqueadores ou transparentes. Além disso, verifica-se também a direcionalidade da nasalização que é predominantemente à esquerda (regressiva). Os resultados mostram que, na família Tupí-Guaraní, há o predomínio de vogais nasais como engatilhadoras, seguidas de consoantes nasais, ou ambas. Os alvos são predominantemente vogais, glides e líquidas; já as obstruintes surdas, em geral, comportam-se como bloqueadoras, mas há línguas em que elas são transparentes ao processo. O domínio da nasalidade nessas línguas é preeminentemente de dois tipos: Local, quando é consoante nasal (N) e a longa distância quando é vogal nasal (Ṽ).
Resenha do livro “Nonverbal predication in Amazonian languages”, organizado por Simon E. Overall; Rosa Vallejos; Spike Gildea (2018). Este é uma coletânea de 14 capítulos adequadamente selecionados dos 32 trabalhos apresentados na “Conferência Internacional Amazônica v”, realizado na cidade de Belém, Pará, no ano de 2014. O volume está constituído de uma diversidade de línguas faladas na América do Sul: 14 línguas individuais relacionadas às famílias linguísticas: Arawak, Tukano, Mataguayo, Guaykuru, uma isolada, o Movima, além de um capitulo escrito por Spike Gildea, que aborda os aspectos histórico-comparativos da cópula e de construções de predicados não- verbais em línguas da família Karib.
Corbett (1991, 2001) e Aikhenvald (2000a) assumem que gênero e classe nominal são um tipo de categorização nominal. Diferentemente desses autores, Grinevald (2000) estabelece uma distinção de gênero e classe nominal, alegando que gênero é um termo geralmente reservado para sistemas relativamente pequenos, baseados no sexo, do tipo indo-europeu, enquanto classes nominais são geralmente usadas para além da questão do sexo, como animado/inanimado, humano/não humano, macho/fêmea etc. Assim sendo, para esta pesquisa utilizaremos a abordagem teórica de Corbett (1991), classificando gênero e classe de nomes em uma mesma categoria: gênero. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo realizar um estudo comparativo-tipológico para verificar a questão de gênero em dez línguas da família Arawák. Como resultado, verificamos que essas línguas atribuem gênero por questões semânticas com mais predominância do que formal e que em algumas línguas, como Paresi, Mehináku, Terena e Wauja, por exemplo, a distinção de gênero se perdeu.
O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar a posse atributiva no que concerne aos chamados nomes alienáveis e inalienáveis em cinco línguas Arawák faladas na região da Amazônia: Baniwa, Baré, Tariana, Apurinã e Wapixana. Um dos resultados apresentados é que em geral, essas línguas exibem distinção de posse alienável [- econômica] e inalienável [+ econômica], com afixos similares, todas elas exibem um morfema que designa nome não possuído. Assim sendo, nota-se a importância de uma averiguação mais detalhada para que, posteriormente, possa se estabelecer um estudo tipológico mais condensado da categoria de posse nas línguas da família Arawák
