Resumo: Este estudo buscou entender os aspectos sociais percebidos pelos profissionais de uma equipe mul---tidisciplinar de triagem neonatal no processo saúde-doença da anemia falciforme. Visou também com---preender a atuação de assistentes sociais na educação em saúde, especialmente o aconselhamento genético. Foram entrevistados profissionais pertencentes a um centro de atendimento de crianças identificadas com anemia falciforme na triagem neonatal. Os resultados revelaram a dificuldade de permanência das pessoas com a doença ou de seus familiares na escola ou no trabalho e a falta de conhecimento sobre especificidades da anemia falciforme não somente pelos usuários dos serviços, como também por profissionais de saúde. Os profissionais entrevistados compreendem o aconselhamento genético para anemia falciforme como uma ação de educação em saúde cuja competência é comum a diferentes áreas do saber.

Serviço Social na saúde.Abstract: This study aimed to understand the social aspects of newborn screening regarding sickle---cell disease according to health professionals of a multidisciplinary team. Also, it aimed to understand social workers' job in health education, especially genetic counseling. Professionals of several areas were interviewed in a care center for children diagnosed with sickle---cell disease in newborn screening. The results revealed the difficulty for people with this disease or their families to remain at school or at work and the lack of knowledge about the specificities of sickle---cell disease by both health care service users and health professionals. The health professionals interviewed understand genetic counseling for sickle---cell disease as a type of health education whose responsibility is shared by different areas of knowledge.
