OBJECTIVE: To analyze the factors associated with the presence of depression symptoms in women after breast cancer. METHODS: Cross-sectional study with 181 women with breast cancer, aged 57.0 years (SD = 9.5), who were undergoing treatment or after treatment in the Oncology Research Center in Florianópolis, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The questionnaire comprised items addressing general and health information, economic level, anthropometric measures, depression symptoms (Beck Depression Inventory), self-esteem (Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale), and body image (Body Image After Breast Cancer Questionnaire). Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis were performed by chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests to verify association, Mann-Whitney U test to compare the groups and Poisson regression to identify the prevalence ratio of the factors associated with presence of depression symptoms (p < 0.05). RESULTS: We found an association between the presence of depression symptoms and the group of younger women (aged 40–60 years), those who had another disease besides cancer, those who had mastectomy surgery, those who suffered from lymphedema, and those who presented low–medium self-esteem. Less educated women presented more depressive symptoms, as did women with worse body image on the subscales of limitations, transparency, and arm concerns. CONCLUSIONS: Age, educational attainment, diagnosis of other diseases, type of surgery, lymphedema, self-esteem, and body image were factors associated with the presence of depression symptoms in Brazilian women after breast cancer. Health professionals should be aware of these relationships and try to detect depression symptoms earlier and improve the care they provide to these women.
RESUMO Cognitive aspects and physical activity level among older adults ABSTRACTObjective: To investigate the cognitive and physical activity for older adults. Method: Cross-sectional study conducted with 125 elderly participants of motor and cognitive interventions in the Center for the Elderly -São José / SC. For this study the following instruments were applied: a) General Information b) Socioeconomic Status (ABEP); c) Perceived health; d) International Physical Activity Questionnaire; e) Geriatric Depression Scale; f) Mini-mental State Examination; g) Test traits; h) Test the clock. Results: 70% of subjects were classified as sufficiently active (active / very active). In the Trail Making Test A (85,1%) and B (81,6%) and the clock drawing test (76%) showed low performance, featuring cognitive impairment. MMSE 53.6% had impaired (mild / moderate / severe) and 46.4% without commitment, being mild impairment the most frequent (45.6%), especially for the elderly in the age group of 70-79 years (p = 0.047). In relation to 74.4% depression showed no suspicion of depression. Conclusion: Most elderly do not present indicative of depression, being sufficiently active, with low cognitive performance (attention deficit and executive functions), and impaired mental state Descriptors: Cognition; Physical Activity; Elderly.
Background: New protocols applied in the rehabilitation of Parkinson's disease enable different action strategies for health professionals, as well as a new range of activities for these individuals. However, no valid samba protocol with activity prescription for this population was found in the literature. Objective: To investigate the feasibility of a Brazilian samba protocol in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Methods: Twenty participants, mean age of 66.4±10.7 years, diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson 's disease, divided into: experimental group that received the intervention of Brazilian samba dance classes (10 individuals); and control group that maintained their routine activities (10 individuals). For data collection, a divided questionnaire was used: General Information; Disability stages scale; Balance and Quality of Life. Results: During class implementation, there were no falls, as all dance activities adhered to the details of the protocol steps without any changes. On average, patients completed 82.7% of activities. After 12 weeks, the experimental group had improvements in the UPDRS global score, in daily activities, and on motor examination. There was also improvement in balance scores and in the mobility domain of the quality of life in the experimental group. Conclusion: The samba protocol seems to be feasible and safe for patients with PD. Moreover, it has pleasant characteristics and offers sufficient physical benefits for combination with drug treatment. There were also benefits in social relationships and as a possible rehabilitation tool in individuals with Parkinson's disease.

ABSTRACT
Defined as the constant or recurrent inability to attain or maintain a satisfactory erection, erectile dysfunction (ED) has multifactorial causes. Regular physical activity can be used as a preventive tool for ED. In this sense, the main objective of this study was to analyze the scientific literature, published in the last ten years (2004-2014), about the relationship between physical activity, ED and the associated factors among men older than 17 years in cross-sectional studies, randomized clinical trials and cohort studies. A systematic review was performed in articles published in the Bireme, ScienceDirect, and PubMed/Medline databases, in the SciELO electronic library and in the Portal of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) Journal and written in Portuguese, English and Spanish. A total of 230 studies were identified, and only 19 met the inclusion criteria, all of which were published in English. ED was diagnosed in all studies. Concerning physical activity, 17 studies identified a significant association with a lower incidence of ED, including cross-sectional and quasi-experimental studies and randomized clinical trials. ED appeared to be associated with different factors related to men's lifestyle, particularly their level of education, non-communicable chronic diseases, body mass index and age.
