La Insuficiencia Renal Crónica (IRC) es un problema de salud pública a nivel local, nacional y mundial. La tasa de crecimiento de la IRC en México ha sido del 11% anual en los últimos 10 años. El estado nutricional del paciente desempeña un papel muy importante en la progresión de la enfermedad. Sin embargo, se estima que 6-10% de los pacientes con nefropatía terminal padecen desnutrición grave y 29-65% moderada. Con el fin de comparar los marcadores nutricionales de laboratorio (MNL) en pacientes con IRC en tratamiento sustitutivo (TS) y determinar las implicaciones que éstos tienen en el estado nutricio se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo, transversal en 20 pacientes con IRC en hemodiálisis (HD) y diálisis peritoneal continua ambulatoria (DPCA) de la unidad de medicina interna del Hospital General de Zona (HGZ) Nº1 del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS). Los datos fueron analizados con el programa Microsoft Office Excel 2007, encontrando valores disminuidos de todos los MNL evaluados, pero no hubo diferencias que parecieran ser significativas entre los tratamientos sustitutivos. Sin embargo, se observa un estado nutricio muy deteriorado en general en los pacientes dializados.
