The floral vascular anatomy of Impatiens L. is discussed with special reference to I. glandulifera Royle.As long ago as 1859, Hooker and Thomson drew attention to the morphology of the Impatiens flower stressing that the precise relationship of the various parts or organs was uncertain. At that time they made several deductions by the useful and simple method of comparing the morphology of different species, and although this helped it did not reduce the descriptive ambiguities applied to the different organs by various authors. In the course of a more extensive systematic study by the present author it was felt that an examination of the vascular anatomy of the flower might help to resolve several problems, the two most important of these being: FLORAL VASCULAR ANATOMY OF IMPATIENS 227
