“…For a few species for which we were unable to investigate more than one specimen, as well as for the three outgroups, characters were obtained from the literature (e.g. Shimizu, ; Grey‐Wilson, ,b; Fischer, ; Lens et al., , ; Chen et al., ; Bhaskar, ). To accurately describe the intricate structure of the Impatiens flower, we used I. corchorifolia Franch.…”

“…Most studies on Impatiens are confined to a specific geographical region and provide purely descriptive taxonomic treatments. For example, Chen (, ) and Bhaskar () focused on Chinese and southern Indian species, respectively, and Grey‐Wilson (,b, ) separately studied the Papuasian, African, and Sumatran species. All south‐east Asian, Indian (including Sri Lankan), and African Impatiens originated from south‐west China, and each of these has evolved independently at least twice (Yuan et al., ; Janssens et al., , ), further complicating the situation.…”

“…The morphological description of the new species was based on examination of fresh material in the field and dried herbarium specimens. The new species was compared with herbarium materials of Impatiens at KUN, HIB, PE (Chinese Academy of Sciences ), as well as photographs and literature (Grey‐Wilson , Chen et al , , Yu ).…”

“…Balsaminaceae comprises two genera, the monotypic Hydrocera Blume ex Wight & Arnott (, p. 140) and Impatiens Linnaeus (, p. 937). The genus Impatiens is species‐rich (Stevens ), with over 1000 species mainly distributed in the tropics and subtropics (Grey‐Wilson , Yuan et al , Janssens et al ). Five diversity hotspots for Impatiens have been recognized including tropical Africa, Madagascar, southern India and Sri Lanka, the eastern Himalayas and South‐east Asia (Song et al , Yuan et al ).…”

“…Balsaminaceae is a family with two genera, Hydrocera Bl. and Impatiens L., the latter being the larger genus of Balsaminaceae, with over 900 species in the world (Chen et al , Shui et al ), mostly distributed in the highlands and mountains of the Old World tropics, but also in parts of temperate Asia, Europe and North America (Grey‐Wilson , Chen et al ). More than 250 Impatiens species (not including varieties) inhabit China and most are endemic (Huang , Yu et al , Cai et al , Cong et al ), of which about 25 species occur in Guizhou (Xiong et al , Xiong , Chen et al ).…”
