Steeds minder lozing van drainwater in de glastuinbouw is toegestaan om uiteindelijk te komen tot nul-emissie van nutriënten en gewasbeschermingsmiddelen naar oppervlaktewater en riool. In deze studie is de potentiële ophoping van reinigingsproducten in recirculatiewater onderzocht als er niet meer wordt geloosd (nul-emissie). Via een enquête is inzicht verkregen in gebruik van diverse producten. Hieruit bleek dat producten meestal in lage concentraties worden gebruikt met als doel om vorming van biofilm in leidingen te voorkomen. In laboratoriumproeven is onderzocht bij welke concentraties een additioneel effect is te verwachten op de afdoding van pathogenen. Reinigingsmiddelen worden gedoseerd bij veel lagere concentraties dan wanneer doding van pathogenen optreed. In een korte teeltproef is onderzocht of er ophoping optrad. Duidelijk werd dat natrium, chloride en chloraat potentieel snel kunnen ophopen met zichtbare symptomen in het gewas, terwijl chelaten deels worden afgebroken. Praktijkmetingen bij gerberagewassen lieten geen ophoping zien van reinigingsmiddelen tot schadelijke concentraties.
