A 64-year-old woman presented to the outpatient department with a symmetrical growth of skin-coloured papules on the cheeks and forehead, which had been slowly enlarging over the past 7 years (Fig. 1). Two weeks previously, the patient had been diagnosed with CrohnÕs disease (CD), and budenoside treatment had been started. Since then, the patient had become concerned about a slight increase in redness as well as growth of the lesions on the face. Her medical history included acne in puberty with scarring. She was otherwise in good health except for hypercholesterolaemia treated with a lipid-lowering drug.Physical examination revealed firm papules, 2-3 mm in size, on the cheeks and forehead, which were not painful to palpation. There were no other similar cutaneous lesions. Results of chest radiography and abdominal and thyroid ultrasonography were normal except for a nephral cyst on the left side. Blood count, multiple serum analyses, thyroid hormones, sodium, calcium, phosphate, alkaline phosphatases and parathormone levels were normal. PathologyAn excisional biopsy was taken from the left forehead. Histological examination by conventional paraffin histology of a formalin-fixed skin biopsy revealed multiple small osteomas of the skin. There was a small shell of lamellar calcified bone, surrounding small bone particles in the reticular dermis. The centre of these osteomas was occupied by fatty bone marrow.
