Ferner ist die sogenannte Methylenhippursaure 11), eine anhydrische Verbindung der Formel CH,-CO C,,H,-CO-N' j , und die entsprechende m-Nitroverbindung beschrieben worden. Schon lange ist es bekannt, dass Chloral, Broiiial and andere halogenhaltige Aldehyde. die befdhigt sind, Glycole ZU bilden, mit Saureamiden zu Verbindungen voni Typus 'cn-0 B-CH(OH)-NH-COR' zusammentreten konnen. Solche Substanzen liegen z. B. im Chloral-resp. Rromalacetaniid 12) sowie im Butyrchloralacetamid nnd Benzamid 13) u. s. w. ror. Da der Formnldehyd nun ehenfalls in der Hydratform z n reagiren vermag, habe ich, namentlich auch im Hinblick auf die Eyistenzfahigkeit der erwahnten Methyloh erbindungen der Saureimide danach gefahndet, zu den Methylolrerbindungen der Saurearnide zu gelangen, was nach vielen vergeblichen Versuchen zunachst dadurch in uberraschend leichter Weise gelungen ist, dass die Einwirkung voii Formaldehyd auf die Saureainide in Gegenwart alkalisch wirkender Condensationsmittel wie liohlensaurer oder atzender Alkalien, Barythydrat, Triathylamin, Cyankalium 11. s. w. vorgenommen wurde.
