Apresento uma versão atualizada de minha tradução do poema The Raven, de Edgar Allan Poe, para o português brasileiro, acompanhada de um estudo teórico sobre as concepções que nortearam a prática e amparada por comentários referentes às escolhas criativas desse processo. Abro a discussão com a debatida questão da intraduzibilidade na poesia; prossigo com os conceitos de “transcriação” e “paramorfia”, conforme propostos por Haroldo de Campos; por fim, retomo os conceitos expostos para evidenciá-los nos poemas The Raven e O Corvo, especialmente no que diz respeito a como os padrões rítmicos, rímicos e aliterativos são determinantes para a construção de sentidos do poema. Comento escolhas pontuais feitas no processo de transcriação do poema, com atenção extra aos efeitos de sentido paronomásticos entre Lenore – nevermore e Raven – never e ponderando as escolhas de algumas traduções anteriores. Defendo que a postura criativa na tradução de poesia é determinante para a potencialização de efeitos que fogem à dimensão semântica dos poemas.
Este artigo apresenta seis traduções do poema “Iá bíeden, odinók i nag”, de Varlam Tíkhonovitch Chalámov (1907-1982). A prosa de Chalámov, lançada recentemente no Brasil, há muito vinha sendo destacada por Boris Schnaiderman como a grande obra de denúncia dos campos de trabalhos forçados do período stalinista. Na poesia, o autor produziu o ciclo Cadernos de Kolimá, que contém o poema traduzido aqui.
Estudo a figura de Pandora, a mulher original nos poemas hesiódicos Theogonia e Os trabalhos e os dias, datados de aproximadamente 700 a. C. Faço considerações sobre a dimensão etiológica das narrativas míti-cas e sobre a configuração sociocultural do mito enquanto definidor de verdades fundamentais do mundo. Apre-sento uma tradução comentada de ambas as versões do mito: Theogonia, v. 507-616 e Os trabalhos e os dias, v. 42-105. Comento os episódios visando a uma compreensão interpretativa do papel de Pandora na cosmologia grega arcaica enquanto arquétipo da mulher-esposa e sobre as interfaces dos planos imortal e mortal no contexto da partilha divina. Desenvolvo em seguida um estudo comparativo dos momentos de criação da mulher original, observando o destaque dado ao corpo e aos adornos de Pandora como pressupostos da feminilidade e do artifí-cio, somados às associações da figura feminina à procriação e à fertilidade. Finalizo com considerações sobre Hesíodo enquanto poeta épico didático, bem como sobre o papel da poesia na educação dos meninos e no cultivo da vida social dos homens, entendendo o caso da Pandora hesiódica como derivação da dominação social mascu-lina para um plano ontológico, reafirmada a partir da materialização poética do mito que converge, desde o plano divino, para uma cosmologia patriarcal.
