O artigo relata a definição da metodologia para a construção da base de dados de artigos de periódicos sobre Estudos Fronteiriços pelo projeto Unbral Fronteiras. Optamos pela formulação e aplicação de um questionário que tratava dos periódicos em que se publica ou que se consulta, caracterizava o entrevistado e recolhia opiniões sobre a publicação no campo dos Estudos Fronteiriços. Em junho de 2018 aplicamos o questionário online aos 419 pesquisadores brasileiros listados no mailing do Unbral Fronteiras. 100 respostas foram recebidas, totalizando 23,87% do universo de destinatários. A análise das respostas revelou uma comunidade ativa no que tange à leitura e publicação de artigos. 302 periódicos foram mencionados, com destaque para Revista Geopantanal, Confins (Paris), Boletim Gaúcho de Geografia, Tempo da Ciência, Geographia (UFF) e Territórios e Fronteiras (UFMT), com mais de 10 menções. A análise da lista de revistas evidenciou uma forte relação entre programas de pós-graduação e a edição de revistas científicas e entre estas e dossiês. Há também uma relação entre os dossiês e eventos científicos na área, configurando um sistema bastante integrado e nacionalizado de produção científica, construído a partir de proximidades pessoais, geográficas e disciplinares. A maioria dos pesquisadores consultados acredita que os periódicos têm pouca visibilidade, omitem determinadas regiões e, principalmente, encontram dificuldades em representar a interdisciplinaridade característica dos Estudos Fronteiriços. Relacionada a isso, a necessidade de uma revista dedicada aos Estudos Fronteiriços capaz de dar conta do caráter multidisciplinar da temática, aumentar a circulação das pesquisas, facilitar as trocas entre pesquisadores de diferentes instituições e linguagens e ultrapassar certos nacionalismos metodológicos é uma unanimidade. A inclusão em indexadores aparece como meta para melhorar a avaliação dos periódicos e o acesso aos artigos relevantes para nós.
