A growing body of research, especially in the domain of psychology and business, is aimed at identifying the link between work-related factors and employee readiness to accept change. Moreover, change management is a topic that rapidly attracts the attention of the academic and business communities as well. Therefore, this study is conducted in order to identify the antecedents of the effective implementation of change(s) within a context of a medium-sized construction company that went through numerous changes during its lifetime. A total of 12 different hypotheses and sub-hypotheses was tested to better understand what factors affect employee readiness for change. A multiple regression analysis was used on a sample of 54 employees indicating that organizational commitment, career commitment, and job satisfaction positively affect employee readiness for organizational change. The research contributes to the fields of human resources, organizational psychology, management of small and medium-sized enterprises, and change management.

Background: The relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and small firm performance has been extensively researched over the last couple of decades. However, the scientific community still does not have a unanimous view regarding non-linear relationships between EO and performance, especially when adding separate EO dimensions. Purpose: This paper explores the non-linear relationship between EO, observed as a unidimensional and multidimensional construct, and small business performance within a small, open, and transitional economy. Moderation effects of environmental turbulence on both direct and non-linear EO-performance relationships have been explored, as well. Study design/methodology/approach: Hierarchical regression analysis was used to test the research hypothesis on the data collected from 109 Montenegrin SMEs. Finding/conclusions: Results reveal that EO has a direct and inverted U-shaped non-linear relationship with small firm performance. Innovativeness and proactiveness have a direct positive effect on small firm performance. Risk-taking and autonomy have an inverted U-shaped non-linear relationship with small firm performance. Environmental turbulence does not positively moderate direct nor non-linear relationship between EO and small firm performance. Limitations/future research: Limitations refer to the relatively small dataset which may affect the strength of the result. Specific national institutional and cultural setting could also influence the findings. Information was gathered from the owners and managers of the observed firms which limited the ability to gather more diverse information from other stakeholders. Research focused on only one moderator explaining the non-linear relationship between EO and small firm performance. Therefore, future research should focus on conducting a multi-country analysis with larger data sets to strengthen the external validity of the present study, and should adopt a multi-level perspective in investigating the role of interrelations among EO dimensions in explaining performance variations. Future studies should continue testing the effects of other moderators in explaining the non-linear relationship between EO and firm performance, especially within a longitudinal context.

This study aims to evaluate the financial health of Croatian top division clubs, locate their primary source of funding, and assess their capacity for self-sustainability. To conclude the current financial condition and long-term (un)sustainability of Croatian club football, selected financial categories and ratios for HNL clubs from 2018 to 2021 were compared with UEFA benchmarks. The horizontal financial analysis results were presented in aggregate league- and individual club-level form and compared to other leagues, averages, and UEFA recommendations. The research revealed significant operating losses covered by net transfer income, unacceptable high wage-to-revenue ratios, and inferior operating margins. Financial stability should not be upheld only as a means to an end for UEFA licensing but for the long-term viability of every football club and the community in which it is embedded. A focus on long-term internal, organic development (i.e., investing in academies, infrastructure, technology, and human capital, as well as actively supporting young players in the first eleven) can yield an edge against more prosperous competition. Without it, top Croatian clubs will eventually realize that the stream of talented players will thin out and, with it, the golden vein that keeps them financially alive.

The beneficial relationship of entrepreneurial orientation with performance has been extensively acknowledged in the literature. However, empirical evidence is not straightforward and requires consideration of the interplay of different variables, context, and rationales through which this causal complexity of the performance-enhancing mechanism of entrepreneurial orientation influences firm performance. In this paper we examine the way the entrepreneurial behavior of the organization unfolds and affects performance through specific configurations resulting from the simultaneous interaction of strategic networking and dynamic environment in the setting of Southeast European SMEs. We apply hierarchical regression to a sample of 963 small and medium-sized enterprises. Empirical findings provide support for applying the configurational approach and show that companies of high entrepreneurial orientation and high strategic networking operating in a dynamic environment achieve the highest effect on a business performance. Research results further indicate that strategic networking is a mechanism that achieves the greatest efficiency in a dynamic environment and with the presence of a firm’s entrepreneurial orientation. According to the research results, implications for research and practice are suggested.

Tobacco industry is one of the most profitable global industries with the steady increase in global demand for tobacco and tobacco related products. Tobacco industry in Croatia has a centuries-old tradition and tobacco is one of the most important non-food agricultural crops produced in Croatia. Moreover, tobacco industry in Croatia is one of the major revenue sources of the government’s budget. The aim of this paper is to determine whether tobacco industry in Croatia is attractive enough for a new player willing to enter the market. Paper provides brief overview of the tobacco industry and the impact it has on Croatian economy. Furthermore, paper explains how excise duties and product prices changed over time, shows market consolidation and concentration before and after the EU accession, and in detail depicts forces which determine industry’s profitability, i.e. its attractiveness.
