L'apport combiné des biodéchets et des engrais minéraux des propriétés du sol et sur le comportement du maïs (Zea mays L. variété Unilu) 6122ABSTRACT Combined effects of biowastes and mineral fertilizers on soil properties and maize yield in Lubumbashi, DR Congo Objectives: This study was conducted during 2012-2013 growing season on the Ferralsol Kasapa farm in Lubumbashi region to assess the effects of combined doses of manure and mineral fertilizers on the yield of maize (Zea mays Var UNILU) and some physico-chemical properties of soil. Methodology and results: The trial was installed following a split splot device comprises in total 12 treatments and three repetitions. The treatments included four doses of manure from chickens (0, 1.75, 3.5 and 7 t.ha -1 ) and three doses of mineral fertilizer (0, 300 kg NPK+ 200 kg urea by hectare and 150 kg NPK + 100kg urea by hectare). Physico-chemical analyzes were performed on samples of soil and biowastes. The general trend of the evolution of levels (N and K) was decreased compared to baseline and high doses of mineral fertilizers and organic waste provided high amounts of N and K. Yield were significantly affected by the supply of minerals that of biowastes. The combination of chicken manure helped increase maize yield (6.9 t.ha -1 of maize grain at 7 t.ha -1 biowastes combined to 150kg NPK+100 kg urea), while the lowest yield (2.9 t.ha -1 ) was obtained on the control plots. Conclusion and research application: The study showed that biowastes combined with inorganic fertilizers increased maize yield in the conditions of this test. Biowaste have great potential for improving the availability of nutrients from soil and was able to provide the amount of nutrients needed for maize growing.
Issue of agricultural use of bio-waste in the city of Lubumbashi: identification of stakeholders, practices and waste characterization. Objectives: An investigation was initiated to describe the profile of the stakeholders, the variability of the practices and analysis of the fertilizing values for each type of biowaste used in urban agriculture. Methodology and results: Determining the profile of the stakeholders was subjected to principal component analysis (PCA), while the parameters gathered around the practice of gardening were analyzed by chisquare test. Moreover, the physico-chemical composition of different types of bio-waste was analyzed to highlight the fertilizer relative value. The results obtained show that the market gardeners of Lubumbashi are mainly married women, aged over 18, and having no land title. Half of biowaste used was chicken manure and pig manure, obtained by purchase and come from the farms. The market gardeners prefer an application in the rough, they burrow into the soil. By spreading biowaste in soil, 33% market gardeners expect increased productivity and improved physico-chemical properties of soil against 48.3% to improve the vegetative aspect of vegetables and increasing yield. The composition of the types of biowaste has varied depending on the elements considered, like that their associated C/N ratio. Conclusion and application: The urban waste management constitutes a major problem in developing countries, identifying constraints to their development in urban agriculture presents an interesting perspective and a response to farmers. Biosci. 2013. Utilisation des déchets humains recycles pour la production du maïs de la RD Congo 5071 Use of recycled human waste to increase the production of maize (Zea mays L.) on a Ferralsol of southeast DR Congo Abstract Objective: By 2030, world population will increase by 3 billion people, 95% in developing countries, food production will have to double, and waste and effluents will quadruple in cities. The urban agriculture practiced contributes to the fight against poverty and environmental sanitation. It is a source of income and participates in Urban Sanitation using recycled waste as fertilizer The population of developing countries is growing, leading to an increase in need for food and an increase in the production of waste and effluents. Recycling of waste is involved in the fight against poverty and in environmental sanitation. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of increasing doses of recycled human waste on the behavior of three maize varieties grown in the region of Lubumbashi. Methods and Results: The experiment was conducted at the Kassapa farm in the University of Lubumbashi (UNILU), in a factorial arrangement with 3 replications. Treatments included three varieties of maize (Katanga, and UNILU Babungo) and 5 doses of recycled human...
