-The experiment was carried out aiming to analyze the dry mass production and distribution and the content and accumulation of macronutrients in sourgrass (Digitaria insularis) plants cultivated under mineral nutrition standard conditions. Plants grew in 7-liter pots filled with sand substrate and daily irrigated with nutrient solution, being maintained under greenhouse conditions. Treatments consisted of times of evaluation (21, 35, 49, 63, 77, 91, 105, 119, and 133 days after emergence -DAE) and were arranged in a completely randomized design with four replicates. Sourgrass showed small accumulation of dry mass (0.3 g per plant) and macronutrients (3.7 mg of N per plant, 0.4 mg of P per plant, 5.6 mg of K per plant, 0.9 mg of Ca per plant, 0.7 mg of Mg per plant, and 0.3 mg of S per plant) at vegetative growth stage (< 49 DAE). Those accumulations increased mainly after 77 DAE, reaching the maximum theoretical value at 143, 135, 141, 129, 125, 120, and 128 DAE, for dry mass (12.4 g per plant), N (163.2 mg per plant), P (27.1 mg per plant), K (260.5 mg per plant), Ca (47.6 mg per plant), Mg (30.9 mg per plant), and S (13.7 mg per plant), respectively. K and N were found with higher rates and, as a consequence, they were required and accumulated in greater amounts in plant tissues of sourgrass. Keywords: Digitaria insularis, plant growth, mineral nutrition. ABSTRACTS -The aim of this study was to obtain a mathematical equation to estimate the leaf area of Brachiaria plantaginea using linear leaf blade measurements. Correlation studies were conducted involving real leaf area (Sf) and leaf length (C), maximum leaf width (L) and C*L. The linear and geometric equations involving the parameter C provided good leaf area estimates. From a practical viewpoint, the simple linear equation of the regression model is suggested using the INTRODUÇÃOB. plantaginea é uma das mais agressivas gramíneas infestantes, ocorrendo em inúme-ras culturas, sendo particularmente importante na cultura da soja.
A greenhouse experiment was carried out from November 2005 to April 2006 at FCAV/ UNESP, Brazil, to study the growth and accumulation and distribution of dry mass and macronutrients in Ipomoea hederifolia, an important weed in annual and perennial crops in Brazil. Plants of both species had grown, separately, in pots with sand substrate and irrigation with nutrient solution. Treatments were represented by the times of evaluation, realized in intervals of 14 days, starting at 21 days after emergence (DAE). A maize plant showed slight growth up to 30 DAE, when dry mass allocation was higher in roots and leaves (80%); while an I. hederifolia plant, up to 50 DAE, when the allocation of dry mass was higher in offshoots and leaves (79). The objective of this work was to determine the interference periods of weeds of the bell pepper cultivar ‘Dahra’. Two experiments were conducted during the years 2014/15 (harvest with lower rainfall) and 2015/16 (harvest with higher rainfall). The treatments consisted of 11 growing periods of cohabitation and weed control with ‘Dahra’ bell peppers: 14, 28, 42, 56, 70, 84, 98, 112, 126, 140 and 154 days after transplanting (DAT). For the determination of the interference periods, the productivity data were analyze using the Boltzmann sigmoidal regression model. The main weeds were Eleusine indica, Brachiaria plantaginea, Digitaria nuda and Nicandra physaloides for presenting high biomass and relative density. The concomitance of these weeds caused losses of up to 85.22% (2014/15) and 86.2% (2015/16) in the fruit yield. It was found that, respectively, for the years 2014/15 and 2015/16, the period before the interference was 17 and 11 DAT, and the total interference prevention period of 71 and 89 DAT. Considering a tolerance of 5% in reducing bell pepper yield, it is recommended that weed control be performed from 11 to 89 DAT.
The presence of weeds may affect both growth and nutrition of agricultural crops due to interference. The objective was to evaluate the interference of weeds in the dry mass distribution and in the accumulation of dry mass and macronutrients in eggplant. The treatments consisted of increasing weed-free and weedy periods (0-14, 0-28, 0-42, 0-56, 0-70, 0-84, 0-98, 0-112, 0-126, 0-140 and 0-154 days after transplanting) in eggplant ‘Nápoli’. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with three replicates. Weeds affected the distribution of dry mass between vegetative and reproductive organs of eggplant. There was a significant reduction in the accumulation of dry mass and macronutrients when weeds grew with eggplant crop beyond 42 days after transplanting, reaching the maximum reduction of 79%, 75%, 80%, 82%, 83%, 83% and 80% in the accumulation of dry mass, K, N, Ca, Mg, P and S, respectively. Therefore, the weed community significantly affects the growth and mineral nutrition of eggplant ‘Napoli’, and there should be no weed-crop coexistence beyond 28 days after seedling transplanting.
