Palavras-chave: amendoim-bravo, competição por nutrientes, Glycine max.ABSTRACT -The degree of weed interference depends on the density of the weeds infesting the soybean crop. The objective of this work was to evaluate the growth and mineral nutrition characteristics in soybean maintained in coexistence with increasing densities of Euphorbia heterophylla. The experiment was carried out in Jaboticabal, SP, Brazil, from October through December 2008, in pots maintained under open field conditions. The treatments consisted in submitting one soybean plant per pot to coexistence with 0, 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 plants of E. heterophylla per pot, from sowing until the beginning of soybean flowering. At this period, only height and number of leaves were evaluated in soybean, while dry matter and macronutrient accumulation were evaluated in both species. Variation in plant height and reduction in the number of leaves and dry matter and macronutrient accumulation of soybean were observed due to the higher accumulation of dry matter and macronutrients per increasing densities of E. heterophylla. It was concluded that growth and macronutrient accumulation of soybean maintained in coexistence with E. heterophylla were reduced due to weed interference.
As populações encontradas apresentaram alta similaridade. The treatments were weedy and weed-free increasing weekly periods, starting at the second week after sowing. The weed community was evaluated based on the number of individuals and their correspondent dry mass accumulation, for each weed population and evaluated period. The beet was harvested 91 days after sowing, followed by transversal diameter and marketable yield evaluation. The weed communities were composed mainly by Amaranthus viridis, Coronopus didymus, Galinsoga parviflora, Nicandra physaloides and Solanum americanum, and the populations were very similar. The period before weed interference and the entire period of weed interference prevention were 14 and 36 days after sowing, respectively. Beet yield in the weed-free treatments was 37.99 t ha -1 and weed interference can be over 90%.
A greenhouse experiment was carried out from November 2005 to April 2006 at FCAV/ UNESP, Brazil, to study the growth and accumulation and distribution of dry mass and macronutrients in Ipomoea hederifolia, an important weed in annual and perennial crops in Brazil. The plants were grown in 7-liter pots with sand substrate and irrigated with Hoagland and Arnon nutrient solution. The treatments corresponded to evaluation times, at 14 day intervals, beginning on the 21 st day after emergence (DAE). Plants of four pots were analyzed for growth and mineral nutrition. I. hederifolia showed small dry mass and macronutrient accumulation at the beginning of the experimental phase, intensified after 63 DAE. The leaves and stems were the main structures accumulating dry mass in the first and second half of the cycle, respectively,. N and K accumulated most in I. hederifolia plants. The maximum dry mass and macronutrient period for I. hederifolia occurred between 133 and 146 DAE.
Palavras-chave: Beta vulgaris, comunidade infestante, manejo cultural.ABSTRACT -The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of increased beet density on the capacity of beet plants to suppress weeds. The treatments were twelve weedy and weed-free increased periods submitted to two beet plant densities (40 and 50 plants m -2 ). Extension of weed interference was one week and time evaluation started in the second week after sowing. Weed dry mass accumulation for each period and estimate of time and extension of weed interference critical periods based on beet marketable yield were evaluated. Less weed dry mass accumulation was observed for increased beet density. The average percent difference of weed dry mass accumulation between densities was 17 and 30% under weedy and weed-free periods, respectively. The critical period of weed interference prevention was shorter for increased beet density (11 days) than for 40 plants m -2 beet density (22 days). Thus, increased beet density increased beet plant capacity to suppress weeds. Thus, weed growth and time and extension of weed interference critical periods were affected. Increased beet density can be used as an efficient tool for weed management.
