Objectives: to understand how the elderly mean their transformations in relation to temporality and the ontological condition of being-elderly. Methodology: Exploratory-descriptive, qualitative study, according to the presuppositions of the phenomenological approach in Heidegger. Results: Fifteen elderly, 11 females and 4 males, aged between 61 and 89 years, all retired, were interviewed. Most of them live with relatives and are illiterate. The results extracted from the speeches revealed the following units of meaning: 1- Recognizing the elderly in their existentiality; 2 - Being in the world as an old man; 3- The aging and the having-to-be for death. Conclusion: The understanding of aging under the perception of the elderly, so that their real needs are known and consequently they can intervene in an effective way, generating quality of life. Thus, it is necessary to reconsider the way of treating the elderly, as well as the assistance provided in the health and society as a whole.
Objetivo: descrever as características epidemiológicas das internações hospitalares por doenças diarreicas agudas em crianças menores de cinco anos de idade no estado do Piauí. Método: estudo quantitativo, descritivo, ecológico, de séries temporais, sobre internações hospitalares por doenças diarreicas agudas em crianças menores de cinco anos, ocorridas no estado do Piauí entre 2010 e 2019. Os dados foram coletados através do Sistema de Informações Hospitalares e analisados por meio da estatística descritiva. Resultados: foram observadas 21.805 internações hospitalares por doenças diarreicas em menores de 5 anos, entre os anos de 2010 a 2019 no Piauí. As internações foram mais prevalentes na faixa etária entre 1 e 4 anos (76,9%), no sexo masculino (52,3%) e na cor parda (52,5%). Picos foi a cidade com mais internações do Piauí (11,4%) e o mês de janeiro foi o que apresentou o maior número de casos (12%). Conclusão: o número de internações hospitalares diminuiu consideravelmente ao longo dos últimos dez anos, contudo, é necessário a adoção de cuidados redobrados principalmente no período chuvoso.
