A hipertensão arterial ou pressão alta como é popularmente conhecida, é uma doença crônica que afeta o aparelho circulatório que se caracteriza por valores de pressão arterial igual ou maior que 140/90 mmHg. O primeiro fármaco desenvolvido para tratar a hipertensão arterial foi o captopril. A prática de partição de comprimidos é comumente utilizada por profissionais de saúde, principalmente no tratamento de idosos e crianças. Dentre as desvantagens observadas nessa prática, a que mais causa preocupação é a de imprecisão na dosagem. O objetivo do estudo foi verificar se o teor de princípio ativo em comprimidos partidos de captopril 50 mg é uniforme nas metades obtidas. A quantidade de captopril foi determinada utilizando-se o método de titulação direta com iodo, descrito na Farmacopeia Brasileira. Os resultados demonstraram que, das quatro amostras analisadas, apenas uma apresentou diferença significativa entre as metades. Já nas análises feitas com comprimidos inteiros, os resultados mostraram que todas as amostras apresentaram teor de princípio ativo acima do limite máximo permitido pela agência reguladora.
