This paper is concerned with the process of change in the university context and examines it
through an Indonesian case study. It starts with a review of literature on higher education as
an organization, its characteristics, and change management in higher education institutions.
The theoretical analysis followed by a case study of student-centred learning (SCL)
implementation in the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM), Indonesia. Based on what has
been achieved, it has been concluded that the implementation of SCL in UGM is a qualified
success and is a good example of change management in higher education context.
The digital parenting realm raised a charm in exploring unique internet monitoring strategies of middle schoolers' daily lives as an authentic phenomenon of increasing youth cybernaut in Indonesia. This study explores parents' patterns of strategies in monitor their children's online activities. A total of 171 parents involved in this study filled out an open-ended survey, where we analyzed their answers using a combination of six steps of Braun and Clarke's (2006) Thematic Analysis procedure and De Farias et al.'s (2020) logical procedure of similarity with MAXQDA 2020 visual tools. The central theme emerged the internet monitoring strategies: regulation, guidance, trust-space, and direct intervention. From parents' perspective, the effective internet parental monitoring strategy was not only proactive but also reactive, especially when children were directly exposed to the online risks or violated the family media use agreement. Parents were optimizing the benefits of children online activity and minimizing the online risks. Parents were also concerned about the top three vital psycho-social factors: generosity, self-control, and critical-technical skills in mastering the cyberworld. Afterward, parents with children of a specific middle schoolers group tend to talk about strategies of internet parental monitoring.
This study investigated the model of learning environment and graduates' transition period from higher education to employment. The responses to a questionnaire of 13,532 graduates from eight countries were analyzed using a structural equation modeling approach. The tested model indicates a close fit based on Chi-square = 233.34, df = 10, p < 0.001; Chi-square / df = 23.33; CFI = 0.984; RMSEA = 0.042. The results showed that learning environment, as composite of structure of courses, institutional support, infrastructure, student activity, and research, affects graduates competencies. Graduates' competencies were shown to have a significant relationship with graduates' transition period in term of job search duration. The higher graduates' competencies are; the shorter the transition period will be. In addition, transition period is also influenced by study abroad experience. Graduates with experience abroad reported to have a shorter period of job search.
Abstract. Purchase intention is an initial stage in which consumers feel attracted to a product or service that will cause the desire to purchase as the final stage in making purchasing decisions. The occurrence of purchase intention is influenced by many factors one of which is a form of promotion by business owners. Promotion that is rampant in the social media Instagram is endorsement done by Instagram Celebrities. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is influence of the endorsement by Instagram Celebrities to the purchase intention of young women. Researchers use the scale of purchase intention that has been modified. Subjects in this study were 73 female adolescence. This study used experimental group and control group to know difference of influence of endorsement by Instagram Celebrities. The resulting data will be analyzed using SPSS program. The results of this study showed a t-test score of 0.950 and p-value= 0.345 (p>0,05) which means there is no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group.
Gotong Royong, as an Indonesian national identity, is not a new concept because it is a long-standing Indonesian cultural value. As an Indonesian ancestor legacy, in the form of immaterial asset, Gotong Royong has been indicated to have been deeply rooted in the Indonesian society’s life. Therefore, there is a need to study and explore the meaning and history of Gotong Royong. This study employs library research, which allows the use of references in the form of articles, books, and journals as its primary data of analysis. The result of this study is that Gotong Royong has existed since Before Christ (B.C.) to the present. The conclusion of this study is the expectation that Gotong Royong is continually maintained as the way of life for Indonesians because Gotong Royong is evident in Pancasila, Bhineka Tunggal Ika, and in living a democratic life
Purpose:The aim of this paper is to provide evidence for the validity and reliability of a questionnaire for assessing the implementation of problem-based learning (PBL). This questionnaire was developed to assess the quality of PBL implementation from the perspective of medical school graduates. Methods:A confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to assess the validity of the questionnaire. The analysis was based on a survey of 225 graduates of a problem-based medical school in Indonesia. Results:The results showed that the confirmatory factor analysis model had a good fit to the data. Further, the values of the standardized loading estimates, the squared inter-construct correlations, the average variances extracted, and the composite reliabilities all provided evidence of construct validity. Conclusion:The PBL implementation questionnaire was found to be valid and reliable, making it suitable for evaluation purposes.
Background Mental health problems are associated with decreasing the quality of various aspects of life. Cases of mental health problems (e.g., depressive symptoms) have increased continuously. Researchers predicted depression to be the first cause of world burden diseases in 2030. One of the determinant factors of mental health is parents’ education levels, but there have been contradictory research findings. The current research investigates the effect parental education attainment has on children’s mental health. Methods We used public data from two waves of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) conducted in 2007 and 2014. There were 767 participants aged 15-19 years old (M = 16.80, SD = 1.37) in 2007. All participants were re-interviewed in 2014. We examined the highest level of the parents’ formal education in 2007 and the children’s mental health in 2014 to find the longitudinal effects. We used depressive symptoms and happiness as representative variables of mental health. The structural equation model (SEM) was used to examine the hypothesis, and we prioritized predictive testing over the models’ goodness of fit. We have built 12 models of combinations of children’s and parents’ sexes and different independent variables. Results The hypothesis testing showed the longitudinal effects that fathers’ education in 2007 has on daughters’ depressive symptoms in 2014 (β = −.203, p < 0.01), while there were longitudinal effects from mothers’ education in 2007 on their daughters’ depressive symptoms (β = −.163, p < 0.01) and sons’ depressive symptoms (β = .096, p ≤ 0.05) in 2014. Testing the happiness models showed that fathers’ education in 2007 influenced the happiness of all of participants (β = .167, p < 0.01), including both sons (β = .206, p < 0.01) and daughters (β = 149, p < 0.01). On the contrary, no significant correlation was found between mothers’ education and children’s happiness across all three categories of participants. Conclusions The general results of this study showed that parents’ education levels were associated with their children’s mental health, but there are different associations found through the different combinations of children’s and parents’ sexes.
Background Studies on physical activity’s psychological benefits are generally fewer than those on its physiological benefits, and these limited studies have mostly investigated its impact on cognitive functions. Studies exclusively investigating physical activity’s effects on happiness are rare. This study aims to investigate the effect of physical activity on psychological functions, especially on happiness. Methods Analysis was based on a large field of nationally representative Indonesian adult data. Data were compiled based on face-to-face interviews with 12,051 adults. Participants provided measures of physical activity, subjective health, and happiness, and responses were recorded with computer-assisted personal interviewing (CAPI) software. Demographic data, including gender, subjective wealth, education, and age, were also included in the analysis. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was conducted to determine the relationship between physical activity, health, subjective wealth, and happiness. Results The tested model of the association between physical activity, health, subjective wealth, and happiness indicated a good fit, based on χ2 (1, n = 12,051) = 48.733, p = .001, RMSEA = .063, and CFI = .97. Path analysis results showed that health conditions mediated the effects of physical activity on happiness. The result also showed positive effects of education level and subjective wealth on happiness. Conclusion This study provides evidence that engagement in physical activity has a positive impact on happiness. Indonesian adults should engage in more active lifestyles since more than one-third of Indonesians did not get enough physical activity.
