A new material composed of atomized cobalt-multiwalled carbon nanotube has been produced and characterized by thermogravimetric analysis and polarization studies to estimate its lifetime. This does not show cobalt thermal oxidation suggesting that it is confined inside the carbon nanotube matrix. The density functional calculations in the literature predict a strong interaction leading to higher hybridization of cobalt atom and carbon nanotubes. A detailed investigation of the corrosion measurements shows that the new material of thickness 0.8 mm, 1 mm, 1.5 mm and 2 mm would last for 31, 39, 60 and 79 years and it would substitute with cobalt-chromium alloy that is used as a load bearing implant for patients with knee pain or partial denture implant.
Purpose: According to the World Report on Disability, prepared by the World Health Organisation and the World Bank (2011), people with disabilities still face substantive discrimination in the world of work. An ILO report (2014) on “Disability and corporate social responsibility” identified some serious issues why employees with disability throughout the world still face discrimination and human rights violation. This study attempts to examine the severity of the multiple barriers faced by employees with disability in the course of their employment.Method: Descriptive research design was used. By stratified random sampling, 100 persons with disabilities (mainly visual, hearing and physical impairments) were contacted and interviewed.Results: Most of the respondents were between 20-30 years of age and 70% were males. Around 41.2% were graduates, yet most of them had low earnings. A large proportion (87.5%) was employed in the private sector. While most of the respondents (65%) reported facing a high level of physical barriers, a large proportion (52.5%) reported high levels of psychological and information, communication and technological (ICT) barriers.Conclusion: Employees with disability mentioned several barriers and limitations with regard to transport, the attitudes of employers or colleagues, anxiety or lack of confidence, and issues relating to access and support. To ensure inclusive involvement in an organisation, employers must be sensitised on disability issues. A non-discriminative recruitment policy, an accessibility audit to minimise barriers, role-mapping of suitable positions, and adaptation of equipment to suit employees, are recommended.
This paper describes the thermal oxidative behavior of atomized iron or atomized cobalt in the presence of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). The thermogravimetric analysis shows the atomized iron thermal oxidation starts at about 500 degrees C that is absent when the atomized iron is sintered with multiwalled carbon naonotubes. The thermal oxidation of iron in the sintered samples requires the collapse of the multiwalled carbon nanotubes. A similar behavior is observed with atomized cobalt when its oxidation requires the collapse of the nanotubes. This thermal oxidative shift is interpreted as due to the atomized iron or atomized cobalt atom experiencing extensive overlap and confinement effect with multiwalled carbon nanotubes causing a spin transfer. This confinement effect is suggested to produce a transformation of iron from the outermost electronic distribution of 3d64s2 to an effective configuration of 3d84s0 and for cobalt 3d74s2 to 3d94s0 producing spintronics effect.
