Neste trabalho apresentamos atividades experimentais destinadas ao ensino de química com enfoque nos contextos social e ambiental mediante o desenvolvimento das propostas “Efeitos da temperatura e do uso excessivo de agroquímicos sobre a microbiota do solo” e “Estudo da pigmentação de sementes de Urucum através de cromatografia em papel”, elaboradas no Instituto Federal do Norte de Minas Gerais. Essas atividades permitem o desenvolvimento dos seguintes conteúdos disciplinares: classificação de reações, técnicas de separação de misturas, polaridade, solubilidade, cadeias carbônicas, funções orgânicas e química ambiental no contexto da ciência, tecnologia e sociedade. Os experimentos descritos aqui se mostraram propícios ao desenvolvimento de discussões interdisciplinares e reflexões sobre o conteúdo curricular do nível médio através de procedimentos facilmente replicáveis que exigem infraestrutura mínima, mas, permitem a aproximação entre atividade científica e o contexto da sala de aula pela construção de inter-relações entre conhecimento e elementos cotidianos, imprimindo significados reais aos conteúdos programáticos.
