A theoretical study of filtration characteristics of rectPeclet number (based on the fiber hydraulic diameter), angular electret fibers arranged in a staggered array filter solid-volume fraction, and fiber aspect ratio, reperpendicular to the flow direction was conducted asspectively. For pure interception, the single fiber effisuming the Brownian diffusion and interception as the ciency was determined to be proportional to 1.55 and dominant particle capture mechanisms. The single-elec-0.54 powers of the interception parameter and filter tret fiber efficiency due to pure diffusion was found to solid-volume fraction, respectively. be proportional to -213, 0.278, and 1/2 powers of the
An experimental study of the filtration performance of several commercially available, NIOSH-approved, disposable respirators was conducted using monodisperse DOP and NaCl particles with diameters in the 0.035 to 4 pm range. The aerosol penetration through the respirators were measured at flow rates of 16,28 and 48 L/m using a condensation nucleus counter, an aerodynamic particle sizer, and a laser optical particle counter for purposes of comparison. The results obtained by these instruments were found to be in good agreement with each
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
