-Thirty-nine plant specimens of six Salvia species were collected from different localities of the Alborz mountain region in Iran and studied for morphological and genetic variability and species relationship. Inter simple sequence repeats (ISSR) molecular markers showed a high degree of within-species and interspecifi c genetic variability in Salvia. Analysis of molecular variance and Hickory tests showed significant molecular difference among the studied populations. A principal coordinate analysis plot of morphological characters grouped the species into two distinct groups, supporting their taxonomic treatment. This was partly supported by ISSR networking. The Mantel test did not show a correlation between genetic distance and the geographical distance of the studied populations. STRUCTURE and reticulation analyses revealed some degree of gene fl ow among the species. The present study showed that ISSR molecular markers could be used in Salvia species delimitation along with morphological study.
In this research, the cytogenetic characteristics, phases of meiosis, abnormality during meiosis, variety of pollen grains, and cytomixis phenomenon have been studied. Populations of 10 species belonging to Salvia L. have been collected from different geographical regions of Iran. Cytomixis was recorded during meiosis I in three species of Salvia (S. nemorosa, S. staminea, S. verticellata) of the Lamiaceae family. Cytomixis and other associated meiotic abnormalities such as chromatin stickiness, clumping of metaphase -1, laggards, bridges, aberrations anaphase I, II, and micronuclei in the species reported into pollen sterility and some variable sizes. It can be said all of these are dependent on each other to create some abnormalities. Cytomixis and chromosome migration occurre in diploid and polyploid meiocytes.
This study aims to revise the taxonomic status of Rhamnus L. and Atadinus Raf. (Rhamnaceae) for the Flora of Iran. Nine species, including 15 taxa are recognized, described and compared with their closely related taxa. These include one new species, R. rahiminejadii Alijanpoor & Assadi, one new subspecies, R. pallasii subsp. mazandaranica Alijanpoor & Assadi, and one hybrid species, R. ×mehreghanii Alijanpoor & Khodayari (R. persica Boiss. × R. kurdica Boiss. & Hohen.). In addition, a hybrid species i.e, ×R. spathulifolia Fisch. & C. A. Mey., is accepted as a distinct species, R. spathulifolia Fisch. & C. A. Mey. and R. cornifolia and R. cornifolia var. denudata, from sect. Rhamnustrum Rouy. are transfered to genus Atadinus Raf. as A. cornifolius (Boiss. & Hohen.) Alijanpoor and A. cornifolius var. denudatus (Bornm.) Alijanpoor.
