Workplace deviance is one of the undesirable behaviors which is responded by employees due to abusive supervision in the workplace. Abusive supervision is one of the crucial topics in the knowledge of the body of management literature. The employees display aggression and retaliation behavior against supervisor interpersonal mistreatment, and ultimately employees engage with deviant behavior. Psychological capital reduces the effect of workplace deviance in the presence of abusive supervision. This study presents a motivational model of how to decrease the effect of workplace deviance in the presence of abusive supervision. The total sample size was 300 pharmaceutical representatives, and simple random sampling technique was used. The structural equation modelling (SEM) technique was used, and the study found that psychological capital moderates the relationship between abusive supervision and employee workplace deviance. Practical implications give few reasons for abusive supervision and guidelines on how to reduce the influence of deviant behaviors and offer new directions for future research and report unexplored theoretical predictions.
Keywords:To fill the research gap of scarce literature and effectiveness of managerial coaching, this study attempts to examine the influence of managerial coaching on employee organization citizenship behavior through the mediating effect of thriving at work and moderating effect of perception of organizational politics between managerial coaching and thriving at work. Data was collected from the employees working in the pharmaceutical sector in Lahore, Pakistan. By using structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis technique with 361 workers' sample, results indicate that managerial coaching is positively correlated with thriving at work, OCB-I and OCB-O and thriving at work mediate the relationship of managerial coaching and organizational citizenship behavior. The results also exhibit that the relationship between managerial coaching and thriving at work is moderated by the perception of organizational politics. Furthermore, the practical implications of this study are further discussed.
Organizations in the era of globalization are promoting managerial coaching (MC) as human resource development practice to improve employees' outcomes in the workplace. The existing literature on manager coaching lacks the empirical studies showing the linking MC with attitudes and behaviors of employees. To fill the gap mentioned above, this study explores the direct linkage between the MC and innovative work behaviors (IWBs) of employees as well as an indirect relationship through the intervening role of affective supervisory commitment (ASC). The 250 surveys were sent to employees working in the software industry of Pakistan, and 207 questionnaires were received back from the respondents, and the response rate was approximately 83%. The findings showed that MC had a positive influence on IWBs among employees. Results also showed that ASC mediated the link between MC and IWBs. ASC as a mediator has not been tested yet between the linkage of MC with IWBs. The implications of the study and limitations are also discussed.
Purpose
Workplace well-being has emerged as an important aspect in the field of health care. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the role of managerial coaching on nurses’ well-being through psychological ownership and organizational identity.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors approached 284 nurses working in both public and private hospitals (between December 2019 and February 2020) on convenience basis, and data were collected through an online questionnaire-based survey.
Findings
The data were analyzed using AMOS version 24 and structural equation modeling confirmed psychological ownership and organizational identity as explanatory variables between managerial coaching and well-being.
Research limitations/implications
The study used self-reported data using convenience sampling which may raise a question on causality. The findings suggest the management to consider the importance of managerial coaching in shaping positive workplace behaviors of employees.
Originality/value
Drawings on social exchange theory, this study extends past studies to examine the mediating roles of psychological ownership and organizational identification between managerial coaching and workplace well-being among nurses. The study has theoretical and practical implications.
Workplace Bullying (WB) is a general and severe issue on workplace in the current era resulting in adverse concerns for both employees and organizations. The issue of workplace bullying needs to be investigated on workplaces to identify the adverse effect on employees' attitudes and behaviors. The study investigates the direct association between linking between workplace bullying and Job Burnout (JB); and indirect association through the mediation of Psychological Contract Violation (PCV) and Psychological Capital (PC). The data were collected by using purposive sampling technique from 310 nurses though self-administered questionnaires employed in public and private hospitals of Lahore, Pakistan. The Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis was utilized for hypotheses testing. The outcomes demonstrate that workplace bullying is directly positively related to job burnout. In other words, employees who face the workplace bullying or being bullied experience the burnout. The findings also reveal that workplace bullying indirectly influence the JB through intervening role of PC and PCV. In other words, workplace bullying reduces psychological capital which result in job burnout among employees, and result in psychological contract violation which lead toward job burnout among employees. This study provided initial empirical evidence regarding the intervening effect of psychological capital and psychological contract violation between the relationship of workplace bullying and job burnout. The implications, limitations and future directions are also discussed.
This study investigates how perceived corporate social responsibility directly influence the job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior of employees, and indirectly influence through the mediating effect work engagement. A questionnaire-based survey was conducted to collect data from 327 students of MBA executive employed in different organizations of Lahore, Pakistan. Structural equation modeling was applied to test the hypothesized conceptual model. Results reveal that corporate social responsibility activities of the organizations increase job satisfaction and discretionary behaviors or organizational citizenship behavior among employees. CSR also increases work engagement, which, in turn, increases job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior as well. This study has shown that concerns toward CSR have increased in the business organization operating in developing countries, and employees working in those organizations are reciprocating to CSR through positive outcomes in the workplace. The employees, as internal stakeholders are responding favorably to the CSR. As per the best of researchers' knowledge, the study firstly tests the mediating role of work engagement in the linkage of CSR with job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior. The theoretical and practical implications are also discussed.
