The purpose of this research is understanding about the total economic value of mangrove ecosystem in the area of Youtefa bay, Jayapura, Papua. The data were collected directly by interviews. Data collection was conducted in March until April 2018 in the area located in three traditional villages around Youtefa bay namely Tobati (46 respondents), Enggros (82 respondents) and Nafri (100 respondents). The methods in this research are contingent valuation method, market price, replacement cost, benefit transfer and willingness to pay. The result of this research shows that total economic value of mangrove ecosystem is about USD 3,715,115.02year -1 or about USD 15,937.49 ha -1 year -1 . Nowadays, the communities in the three villages of Youtefa bay get direct use from the mangrove ecosystem are about USD 2,049,419.17 year -1 or USD 3,987.1968 household -1 year -1 . These direct use are derived from the utilization of mangroves as a supplier of fish, crab, shrimp, shellfish and firewood products. Indirect use of mangroves as coastal protection, prevention of seawater intrusion and carbon sequestration of USD 1,660,163.80 year -1 or USD 7,122.50 ha -1 year -1 . The option and existence value of mangrove ecosystem are about USD 3,496.80 year -1 and USD 2,035.25 year -1 . The conservation effort for the maintaining of mangrove ecosystem are needed to get the high value of the using it and improve the welfare of local communities.
Mangrove area in Youtefa Bay is very important for the local people’s lives in around the Youtefa Bay. Willingness to pay (WTP) of the local’s people toward the mangrove ecosystem is their appreciation for existence value of mangrove ecosystem. This research explored how much the WTP was given by the local people toward the mangrove ecosystem existence in Youtefa Bay. The data collection was conducted in March to April 2018 located in three villages around the Youtefa Bay, namely Tobati (46 respondents), Enggros (82 respondents) and Nafri Villages (100 respondents). WTP value collection technique used contingent valuation method (CVM). Result of this research showed that there were 92.98% (212 respondents) who were willing to contribute or pay and 7.02 % (16 respondents) were not. The obtained WTP value of respondents ranged between IDR 0 to IDR 200,000.00 with mean WTP of respondent was IDR 56,052.63/year meanwhile aggregate WTP was IDR 28,811,052.63/year. Variables which had significant influence toward WTP value were earnings and participation and seminaries/trainings/workshops regarding to mangrove ecosystem. Meanwhile gender, age, education level and occupation variables didn’t make any significant influence toward the given WTP value amount.
Peatlands are often associated with an area that has a specific habitat in a particular area. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics and associations of the dominant biodiversity in the Mappi Regency, Papua. The research method used was a survey. The survey was conducted in Bamgi District, Mappi, Papua. The results showed that peat soils in Mappi have characteristics that are categorized as fabric-peat. Acidity or soil pH condition belongs in the low category (3.95-4.53), moderate C-organic (16.31%), high nitrogen (1.09%), moderate C/N ratio (15.01), whereas soil texture was from clay loam to sandy silt loam. This peatland is associated with various types of important tree groups flora, such as sago, agarwood, or gaharu (Aquilaria spp), massoy tree, rubber, and whitebark tree or gambir. Based on the level of importance, this peatland area contains various important plant species. Thus it needs to be conserved with appropriate area management.
Ekosistem terumbu karang memiliki nilai dan arti yang penting baik dari segi ekologi, sosial, ekonomi maupun budaya masyarakat. Keberadaan ekosistem terumbu karang dapat berdampak pada ekonomi dan pengembangan wilayah pesisir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi tutupan karang hidup dan nilai manfaat ekonomi dari ekosistem terumbu karang di perairan Tablasupa. Pengamatan kondisi tutupan karang hidup dilakukan dangan menggunakan metode Point Intersept Trasect (PIT) pada kedalaman 3 m di 2 stasiun penelitian. Sedangkan nilai manfaat ekonomi ekosistem terumbu karang diperoleh dengan menggunakan konsep valuasi ekonomi untuk menghitung nilai manfaat secara langsung maupun manfaat tidak langsung dari potensi ekosistem terumbu karang yang ada. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa secara umum kondisi tutupan karang hidup di perairan Tablasupa berada dalam kategori sedang hingga baik dengan tutupan karang hidup berkisar antara 34,0% - 52,5%. Jenis karang hidup yang dominan adalah Coral branching dan Coral massive, Acropora branching, Acropora submassive dan Acropora tabulate. Nilai total manfaat ekonomi sumberdaya terumbu karang perairan Tablasupa mencapai Rp. 3.856.018.301,- per tahun, yang terdiri dari manfaat langsung perikanan terumbu (89,626%), manfaat tidak langsung sebagai nursery ground (0,014%), manfaat pilihan atau keanekaragaman (0,004%), manfaat keberadaan (1,194%) dan manfaat warisan (8,963%).Kata Kunci: Terumbu karang; Point Intersept Trasect; Manfaat ekonomi; Perairan Tablasupa
