Kesadaran masyarakat akan gaya hidup sehat menyebabkan peningkatan permintaan produk organik, termasuk buah jeruk. Meskipun belum diterapkan pada skala luas, budidaya jeruk yang ramah lingkungan telah dilakukan di tingkat petani, di antaranya di Jawa Timur, Bali, Bengkulu, dan Jawa Barat. Pada lahan sela di antara barisan jeruk, ditanam beberapa tanaman semusim yang bertujuan untuk menekan pertumbuhan gulma, sebagai bahan pupuk organik, serta dapat menjadi sumber pendapatan. Percobaan ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh penanaman tanaman semusim pada budidaya jeruk ramah lingkungan terhadap kualitas internal dan eksternal buah. Analisis buah dilakukan di Laboratorium Ekofisiologi, Balai Penelitian Tanaman Jeruk dan Buah Subtropika, Kota Batu pada bulan Juli 2020. Percobaan disusun menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok, dengan faktor yang diujikan adalah jenis tanaman tumpangsari. Terdapat 4 taraf yang diujikan, yaitu kacang kedelai, kacang hijau, kacang tanah, dan ubi jalar, masing-masing dengan 10 ulangan. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa penanaman ubi jalar sebagai tanaman tumpangsari mampu menghasilkan buah jeruk dengan bobot buah, bobot daging buah, dan volume jus yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan kacang hijau dan kacang tanah, namun tidak berbeda nyata dengan kacang kedelai. Penanaman tanaman tumpangsari tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap bobot kulit dan biji buah, diameter buah, total padatan terlarut, rasio TPT:TAT, dan kandungan vitamin C. Penggunaan ubi jalar atau kacang kedelai sebagai tanaman tumpangsari pada budidaya jeruk ramah lingkungan dapat diterapkan untuk menghasilkan buah jeruk yang berkualitas.
Pengujian pupuk Fertila (12-6-24 +2MgO+3CaO+14SO3+unsur mikro) bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dosis pupuk terhadap kadar N, P, K daun, kadar sari buah, kadar asam dan total padatan terlarut, serta efektivitas pupuk terhadap hasil buah jeruk keprok Terigas. Percobaan ini dilaksanakan di IP2TP Kliran dan Laboratorium Ekofisiologi, Balai Penelitian Tanaman Jeruk dan Buah Subtropika, pada Agustus 2017. Tanaman yang digunakan adalah keprok Terigas yang diokulasi pada batang bawah Japansche Citroen berusia 4 tahun, dengan produksi tahun sebelumnya adalah 20 kg/pohon. Percobaan disusun menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dengan 6 perlakuan, yaitu kontrol (tanpa pupuk), pupuk rekomendasi (0,60 kg Urea (45% N) + 0,50 kg SP36 (36% P2O5) + 0,10 kg KCl (60% K2O)/pohon), serta pupuk Fertila dengan dosis 1,50, 2,25, 3,00, dan 3,75 kg/pohon. Setiap perlakuan diulang 4 kali. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi pupuk Fertila pada Inceptisol dengan status N tanah rendah, P tersedia dan K dapat ditukar sedang, berpengaruh nyata terhadap kadar N dan K daun jeruk. Fertila pada dosis tertinggi menghasilkan sari buah dengan total padatan terlarut lebih besar dibandingkan dengan pupuk rekomendasi, tetapi tidak berbeda nyata pada kandungan sari buah dan total asam tertitrasi. Kecuali dosis 1,5 kg/pohon (7,5% dari bobot panen sebelumnya), pupuk Fertila menghasilkan efektivitas hasil buah lebih dari 100% dan dosis pupuk optimum yang dianjurkan adalah 3 kg/pohon setahun.
Konservasi tanaman tahunan seperti apel umumnya dilakukan di lapang. Namun, karena beberapa kendala yang dipicu oleh perubahan iklim dan serangan hama dan penyakit, diperlukan sistem konservasi yang lebih efisien, misalnya secara in vitro. Konservasi in vitro adalah alternatif untuk melestarikan tanaman yang diperbanyak secara klonal seperti apel. Penelitian ditujukan untuk melihat pengaruh perbedaan konsentrasi media dan ZPT untuk konservasi apel secara in vitro. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Laboratorium Terpadu Baltjestro dari Agustus hingga Desember 2018. Media yang diuji adalah Media MS dengankonsentrasi garam penuh (FS) dan setengah (HS) dengan penambahan BA. Aksesi yang diuji adalah K60, K66, K01, K84 dan batang bawah apel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media MS FS lebih baik dalam mempertahankan eksplan hidup daripada HS selama empat bulan konservasi tanpa subkultur. Kombinasi MS FS dan BA 0.1 mg L-1 memberikan hasil terbaik untuk konservasi apel untuk aksesi K01 dan K66.
