The magnetomechanical coupling coefficient, k33, has been modeled as a function of the elastic modulus of the matrix, Em , of composite magnetostrictive materials. Measurements of k33 have been performed by a three-parameter technique on glass-matrix Terfenol-D composites fabricated from powders heated to 700°C in an inert atmosphere under the application of a 1-3 kN force. It is concluded that there is a value of Em for optimum magnetomechanical performance which is dependent on the volume fraction, Vf. The optimum value of Em is close to, but less than, the elastic modulus of the magnetostrictive materia
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
