O Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA) é caracterizado pela dificuldade na linguagem falada e interação social. A condição bucal do paciente com TEA é de altos índices de placa dental, explicados pelas dificuldades na realização de higiene bucal, aumentando também os índices de cárie e doença periodontal. O que mostra a importância de um tratamento odontológico eficaz, porém se trata de um dos maiores desafios para os cirurgiões dentistas, devido às suas manifestações clinicas complexas e variadas. O objetivo desse estudo é ressaltar a importância de uma abordagem eficaz e segura por parte do cirurgião dentista, para obter a colaboração do paciente com TEA durante o atendimento odontológico não farmacológico. O estudo consiste em uma revisão de literatura narrativa, e foram realizadas buscas nas bases de dados bibliográficos; Pubmed, BVS (Biblioteca virtual em saúde) e Lilacs (Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da saúde) nos anos de 2012 a 2021. Com os resultados observou-se que, para a realização de um bom atendimento, inicialmente é necessário conseguir a colaboração do paciente, com métodos e técnicas educativas e lúdicas, ensinando e estimulando a fazer sua higiene oral sempre prezando a prevenção. Desse modo é possível concluir-se que, é importante realizar o atendimento odontológico precocemente, desde a primeira infância para uma melhor adaptação por parte do paciente autista e assim obter-se-á maior cooperação na manutenção da sua saúde bucal dentro de suas limitações.
