BaAg2S2 wurde als kristallines Pulver bei der Umsetzung von Barium‐bis[dicyanoargentat(I)] im Schwefelwasserstoffstrom bei 500°C erhalten. Einkristalle entstanden in einer evakuierten Glasampulle, in der das pulverförmige BaAg2S2 mit Kaliumrhodanid als Flußmittel bei 480°C erhitzt wurde. BaAg2S2 kristallisiert trigonal im CaAl2Si2‐Typ, a = 4,386(1) Å, c = 7,194(2) Å, Raumgruppe P3m1, Z = 1. Die Struktur wurde mit Einkristalldiffraktometerdaten verfeinert. Die Silber‐Schwefel‐Abstände werden vergleichend mit den entsprechenden Abständen der bisher bekannten und ebenfalls im CaAl2Si2‐Typ kristallisierenden Erdalkaliübergangsmetallpniktide diskutiert.
