The emission of a bluish-green glow during the dissolution of ),-irradiated alkali halides has been recently reported under the name of aquoluminescence. We present here details for its production, observation, and for the measurement of its intensity. Typical oscillograms of the glow and its spectral analysis are also given. A probable mechanism for the origin of aquoluminescence is suggested consistent with the effects observed thereon due to pH of the medium and the addition of electron acceptors and donors prior to dissolution of the irradiated salt.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
