lp;&-5q;1 The reactions of [Tl2[S2C=C[C(O)Me]2]]n with [MCl2L2] (1:1) or with [MCl2(NCPh)2] and PPh3 (1:1:2) give complexes [M[eta2-S2C=C[C(O)Me]2]L2] [M = Pt, L2 = 1,5-cyclooctadiene (cod) (1); L2 = bpy, M = Pd (2a), Pt (2b), L = PPh3, M = Pd (3a), Pt (3b)] whereas with MCl2 and QCl (2:1:2) anionic derivatives Q2[M[eta2-S2C=C[C(O)Me]2]2] [M = Pd, Q = NMe4 (4a), Ph3P=N=PPh3 (PPN) (4a'), M = Pt, Q = NMe4 (4b)] are produced. Complexes 1 and 3 react with AgClO4 (1:1) to give tetranuclear complexes [[ML2]2Ag2[mu2,eta2-(S,S')-[S2C=C[C(O)Me]2]2]](ClO4)2 [L = PPh3, M = Pd (5a), Pt (5b), L2 = cod, M = Pt (5b')], while the reactions of 3 with AgClO4 and PPh3 (1:1:2) give dinuclear [[M(PPh3)2][Ag(PPh3)2][mu2,eta2-(S,S')-S2C=C[C(O)Me]2]]]ClO4 [M = Pd (6a), Pt (6b)]. The crystal structures of 3a, 3b, 4a, and two crystal forms of 5b have been determined. The two crystal forms of 5b display two [Pt(PPh3)2][mu2,eta2-(S,S')-[S2C=C[C(O)Me]2]2] moieties bridging two Ag(I) centers.

The reaction of 2-ROC6H4I with [Pd2(dba)3]·dba (“Pd(dba)2”; dba = dibenzylideneacetone) in the presence of the appropriate ligand results in the formation of the arylpalladium complexes trans-[Pd(C6H4OR-2)I(PPh3)2] (R = H (1a), C(O)Me (1b), C(O)CHCH2 (1c)) and [Pd(C6H4OR-2)I(bpy)] (bpy = 2,2‘-bipyridine; R = H (2a), C(O)Me (2b)). Complexes 1b and 1c react with bpy in the presence of Tl(OTf) (OTf = OSO2CF3) to give the cationic species [Pd(C6H4OR-2)(bpy)(PPh3)]OTf (R = C(O)Me (3b), C(O)CHCH2 (3c)). Complex 1a reacts with carbon monoxide, yielding the insertion complex trans-[Pd{C(O)C6H4OH-2}I(PPh3)2] (4a). Complexes 2a and 2b can also be carbonylated to give [Pd{C(O)C6H4OR-2}I(bpy)] (R = H (5a), C(O)Me (5b)). Complex 4a reacts with bpy and Tl(OTf), giving [Pd{C(O)C6H4OH-2}(bpy)(PPh3)]OTf (6a). The reaction of 2-ROC6H4I with Pd(dba)2 and isonitriles R‘NC gives rise to the complexes trans-[Pd{C(NR‘)C6H4OR-2}I(CNR‘)2] (R = H, R‘ = Xy = 2,6-dimethylphenyl) (7a), R‘ = t Bu (7a*); R = C(O)Me, R‘ = Xy (7b), R‘ = t Bu (7b*)). Complexes 7a and 7b* can also be prepared by ligand displacement from 2a and 2b and XyNC and t BuNC, respectively. Complexes 2a and 2b react with R‘NC (1:1) to give [Pd{C(NR‘)C6H4OR-2}I(bpy)] (R = H, R‘ = Xy (8a), R‘ = t Bu (8 a *); R = C(O)Me, R‘ = Xy (8b)). Complex 7a reacts with bpy in the presence of Tl(OTf), yielding [Pd{C(NR‘)C6H4OH-2}(CNR‘)(bpy)]OTf (9a). Reaction of 5a with R‘NC gives trans-[Pd{C(O)C6H4OH-2}I(CNR‘)2] (R‘ = Xy (10a), t Bu (10 a *)), which, in turn, react with further R‘NC in the presence of Tl(OTf) to give [Pd{C(O)C6H4OH-2}(CNR‘)3]OTf (R‘ = Xy (11a), t Bu (11 a *)). Finally, the reaction of 7a with Pd(OAc)2 results in the tetrameric [Pd{κ 2(C,O)- μ 2(O)-C(NXy)C6H4O-2}(CNXy)]4 (12) and trans-[PdI2(CNXy)2]. Most of the reported aroyl (4−6, 10, 11) and iminoaroyl (7−9, 12) derivatives are new types of palladium complexes. The crystal structures of complexes 5a, 7a, 7b, 8b, 9a, and 12 have been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The following scale of trans influence has been established:  bpy < I < C(NXy)C6H4OC(O)Me-2 ≈ C(O)C6H4OH-2 < C(NXy)C6H4OH-2.

Lithium ion batteries play an increasing role in everyday life, giving power to handheld devices or being used in stationary storage solutions. Especially for medium or large scale solutions, the latter application confines a huge amount of energy within a small volume; however, increasing the hazard potential far above the common level. Furthermore, as the safety hazards of lithium ion cells have been known for years, impressively shown by several burning cars or laptops, the need for a further enhancement of the safety of these systems is rising. This manuscript presents measurements of the gas emission from lithium ion batteries in case of a malfunction for different scenarios, showing a large variety of species with mostly toxic to highly toxic properties. The measurements were carried out using a combination of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), quadrupole mass spectrometry (QMS), photoacoustic spectroscopy, and chemical analysis. It is shown that the inflammation of a cell can be overcome, also preventing a cascading effect to neighboring cells, but giving rise to worse toxic gas emission. Furthermore, a filtration concept is presented that decreases the concentration of the emitted components significantly and promises filtration below immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH) equivalent levels.
