The study aims to identify the ways to produce text production process by Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN, or State Islamic University) students in Padang on Facebook. Documentations, observations, and in depth-interviews were used to collect data. There were 1,214 discourses found on group and personal accounts of 27 informants, and 400 discourses were taken as data of the research. The analysis was conducted by following Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, (CDA), with the Critical Linguistics approach. The research findings show that the text production process by UIN students on Facebook were done in three ways, namely producing their own text, spreading other people’s texts that are shared from the site, and producing text as a result of consumption of other texts. Producing text itself is a way of producing text by creating its own status as a form of expression of thoughts, feelings, and experiences, without referring to other texts or texts that have been published on other walls. The form of production by spreading text from other website is the most common form of text production. Production status is a form of the author’s reaction to the text he or she understood.
Digital democracy has produced a wave of political activism led by a number of Key Opinion Leaders (KOL). However, this activity began to face a serious challenges following the issuance of the Information and Electronic Transaction Law (ITE) which is considered a silencing weapon for freedom of expression in cyberspace. Therefore, this study aims to reconsider several cases of hate speech that convicted three KOL people who were selected through the Forensic Linguistics approach. The data is sourced from utterances published on their respective social media accounts. Semiotic analysis and pragmatic discourse methods are integrated into the data interpretation and description process. The results of the analysis concluded that the posts from three convicted KOL (ADP, JG, BY) have fulfilled the element of hate speech acts through illocutionary speech acts that contain elements of humiliation, defamation, and incitement of violence and provocation that have the potential to create conflicts between religions, ethnicities and groups.
This linguistic-based educational research was conducted to identify the relation between semantic understanding and student's syntax comprehension in learning English as foreign language. This observational research was managed by giving English humor (joke, pun, wit, etc.) to thirty students of English Department. In addition, students were interviewed to know how humor is advantageous for their grammar understanding. This research emerged that students were encouraged to construct well-structured sentences after firstly discovering the meaning of the humor. The first factor was the fact that students were able to understand the whole humor although they missed the grammar structure of it. The second factor was the in complex and brief structure of humor-triggered students to competently sustain its grammatical structure. The third factor was the ridiculousness of the joke itself. That humor is undoubtedly ridiculous motivate students to memorize its grammatical structure and meaning. Thus, humor was highly beneficial for students to elevate their grammatical mastery.
The research discusse joke strategies in American situational comedy How I Met You Mother (HIMYM). The purpose of this research is to identify; (1) the joke strategies in situational comedy HIMYM (2) The pragmatic meaning of jokes that are expressed by the characters in HIMYM AND (3) Pragmatic prank functions that are expressed by the characters in HIMYM. This research is categorized as descriptive linguistic research. Observation method applied in data collection, while the method of distribution and matching applied in analyzing data. The results of this research data analysis is presented using informal and formal methods. From the results of data analysis found 14 strategy joke uttered by characters in a situational comedy American HIMYM, namely: ambiguity, grammar, syllabics, idiomatics, questionable English, antonymics, style, negativism, lexicography, spelling, punctuation, Rhyming English, numerical English And part of speech. The dominant strategy used is ambiguity because there are many words in English that mean more than one and are likely to lead the listener to multiple interpretations. The jokes uttered by the characters in situational comedy HIMYM have assertive, expressive and directive meanings. Moreover, the joke also serves to show the power, solidarity and psychological defense of the speaker.
