Although not previously reported, this case suggests that synovial sarcomas may be a secondary malignancy after RAI therapy. The latency in this case is reasonable, the dose to the lungs was small, but in the range where radiation-related malignancy may occur, and the somatic chromosomal rearrangement could be a radiation effect.
Various alterations of lipid homeostasis have a significant role in the pathophysiology of the artherosclerotic process. The effects of usual lipid-lowering agents such as statins, fibrates, or niacin are well known, but other endocrine therapeutic agents could also affect the blood levels of various lipoproteins and, in turn, influence atheroma formation. In this review, we attempt to summarize the effect of several hormonal and non-hormonal endocrine agents on lipid metabolism, including insulin, thyroid hormone, sex hormones, glucocorticoids, growth hormone, and several anti-diabetic agents.
An MPEG-based image contrast enhancement algorithm for people with low vision is presented. Contrast enhancement is achieved by modifying the inter-and intra-quantization matrices in the MPEG decoder during the decompression stage. The algorithm has low computational complexity and does not affect the MPEG compressibility of the original image. We propose an enhancement filter based on the visual characteristics of low-vision patients, and report the results of preference experiments with 24 visually impaired subjects. Subjects favored low to moderate levels of enhancement for two of the tested video sequences, but favored only low levels of enhancement and rejected higher enhancement for two other sequences that had fast motion.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
